I don't like either of those comparisons. I'm not sure who to really compare Mayo to, but Rose is a mini Dwyane Wade.
I don't know why everyone is so keen on thinking Mayo is a PG in this league. He's better off at the SG where he can be more of a scorer instead of having to worry about getting others involved. As for the argument, Rose, hands down. He may not have the better offensive game at this point, but he's proven that he can be an elite PG already in the league, his shot has improved considerably since getting drafted, and there isn't a PG in the NBA who can keep him out of the lane and very few that can stay in front of him.
I definitely disagree and think Mayo could play the 1 quite well. I'm confident Mayo will be better than Stackhouse, although Stack in his prime was a great player
I'm not saying Mayo couldn't be a good PG, I just think he's more suited to be a SG. He's a scorer at heart and I think moving him to the PG neutralizes that at least a little bit.
Why is Rose better? Rose's defense sucks, and you just conceded that Mayo, offensively, is better than Rose.
Rose is a better leader and is catching up to Mayo offensively. The only thing Mayo really has on Rose offensively is a more consistent outside shot. Rose is much better at getting to the hoop and is a better passer and decision maker. I also think Rose has a higher ceiling than Mayo. Oh yea, and great, franchise PGs like Rose don't come around too often. Despite his craptastic defense, I'm not worried about Rose on that end at all. He's got a great work ethic and will improve on that part of his game, much like he's improved offensively.
There could be some bias in it, not gonna lie. However, I do legitimately think Rose is a better player. He's really helped resurrect that team this year and has been a huge reason as to why they're hovering around .500 right now.
Yup. A lot like Gordon. O.J. Mayo has a 57 TS%. That is absolutely amazing for a rookie. Rookies don't come into the league and score at an elite level efficiency wise, but Mayo has done it, so you have to give the kid major props. He had a lot of problems against Ben Gordon last Friday. He couldn't guard Gordon at all, and got burned in the first half. Then when he began figuring out the play the Bulls were running, he got exhausted chasing Gordon around, making him look worse offensively. Derrick Rose so far is scoring less efficiently than Mayo, and he really isn't creating assists, he's just getting Kirk Hinrich style pass it to the jumpshooter and get an assist because they hit the shot style assists for the most part. So far, I would say O.J. Mayo is a bit better than Rose in the early going.
