http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3790141 So that's half of King Midas's silver spent on three players in one offseason. I'm honestly not that pissed about this. The Sox could have easily topped those figures, for whatever reason they didn't, but the Sox didn't really need this guy.
The Yankees now have the four highest payed players in baseball with Teixeira, Jeter, Arod and Sabathia. Pretty ridiculous
I knew they were going to sign him. I callled/texted like 20 people already who said I was dumb for thinking they would.
Ehh. We'll live. Let Hanky make his panic moves. When you look at it, the Yankees are just replacing production from last season that they've lost (in the form of Giambi and Mussina). They didn't make the playoffs last year. Then take the Sox' injured team that won 95 and came within a game of the World Series. Advantage Sox.
Yeah, I'm not worried at all. I'm actually happy about it. I'd rather he signed somewhere else, but whatever. Lowell still has a few years left and better replacements for him will pop up before he's through.
Funny this is we are still below 200mil payroll...And we are gonna be looking to move Matsui and probly Swisher now
Its funny how much of Red Sox Nation is in flipshit panic mode over this. I'm normally the first to jump off the deep end on these kinds of things, and I'm not worried at all.
lol That team is so gay. They're not even gonna make the playoffs so who cares. Still not better than the Red Sox or Rays. They're just wasting money like always. I hate them. Go Phillies! :]
the Deal is actually 8 years 180 million, not bad making 18 million a year! The Yankees are doing the exact opposite of most teams this season with lower attendence expected in the current economy. Most teams are waiting for free agents to lower their asking price especially for DH's who are going to get way less this year. The Yankees infield when CC is pitching is making 106 million next year plus a 26.9 million luxury tax (could increase with texieria) for a total of 133 million! With that money you could have the entire 40 man Marlins, Rays, and Twins roster and 11 million for the same price of what the yankees spend on their infield. My Twins/Marlins/Rays roster would be: C- Mauer 1B- Morneau 2B- Dan Uggla SS- Hanley Ramierez 3B- Evan Longoria DH- Carlos Pena LF- Carl Crawford CF- BJ Upton RF- Denard Span Pitchers: Kazmir, Shields, Price, Garza, Lirano Bullpen: JP Howell, Joe Nathan, Adam Miller, Ricky Nolasco.
28 million- ARod (2008 salary) 21.6 million- Derrek Jeter (2008 Salary) 13.1 Million- Jorge Posada (2008 Salary) 3 million- Robinson Cano (2008 Salary) 22.5 (edit)- Mark Texieria 26.9 million official luxury tax plus another 7.2 million for Tex 23 million- CC Total: 138.1 offically now plus another 9 million when the Tex deal is finalized (40% above 155 million) and salary increases. If you want to take out the 6.6 million luxury tax for AJ Burnett just to calcuate how much the infield (pitcher included) just when CC Sabathia is pitching is 140.5 million per year
Don't really see how people say the Rays are a better team and the Yankees will not make the playoffs next season. This past season was the Rays first winning season, EVER. That automatically makes them better? And ensure that the Yankees will not make the playoffs next year? The Yankees lost one of their best pitchers in Chien-Ming Wang before the the All-Star break. That screwed them in their rotation. Wang won 19 games in his last two full seasons. He missed well over 15 starts. And the Yankees were only 6 games behind the Red Sox. I'm quite positive that if Wang had not been injured, it would have been the Red Sox in 3rd place and not the Yankees. Or let's just say Wang were to win another 19 games, the Yankees would have claimed 1st place. Start matching up players and I would give the advantage to the Yankees.
Every year, if you match up players, the Yankees have the edge. So why haven't they won?? Nobody ever answers/acknowledges this.
