Does Devin Harris really deserve to be an All-Star?

    I'm not so sure.

Let's assume AI, Wade, James, Garnett, and Howard are the starters.

Joe Johnson, Paul Pierce, Chris Bosh, and Ray Allen are locks for the reserves. There has to be a backup center, so let's say Big Z makes the team. That leaves only two spots left.

With the way the Celtics have played this season, I believe Rajon Rondo has to get one of those spots.

That leaves Harris competing with Carter, Granger, and Jameer Nelson.

Does Devin really deserve it more than those guys?

I used to hate Jameer Nelson, but he's had a phenomenal season and absolutely deserves to be in the All-Star discussion. Devin scores a little bit more, but Jameer has been the leader of a terrific Magic team.

Danny Granger has turned into a terrific player. The Pacers aren't very good, but there's no doubt that Granger has been playing at an All-Star level. What separates Harris from Granger?

I guess the most important question is whether or not Devin deserves it more than Vince. Devin has had a great season, but the Nets' best player is Vince Carter. It's Carter who is the leader of the team and in most cases is still the go to guy. Vince's all around play this season has been great. If the Nets are to have an All-Star, there's a pretty good argument that it should be Carter and not Harris.

Don't forget Ben Gordon. He's guaranteed votes from the Heat/Bucks, and might get some additional votes from teams trying to manipulate it into getting their own allstars on the team (Nets/Hawks/Celtics/Pacers/Magic).

Jameer Nelson probably shouldn't make it. Neither should Mo Williams, or Rajon Rondo. There are too many great guards whose teams are only mediocre in the East for various players from the really good teams to make it for just the hell.

Devin Harris is a lock though imo. Vince Carter is the one who is more likely to be left off.

Having Rondo or Nelson over Harris is laughable. And I think it's ridiculous that Ray Allen gets a spot. Complete bullshit. But it will probably happen.

I'm not sure what the situation was last year. But the year prior, when he was a Sonic, he only made it because of injuries. I remember that.

I know this type of stuff does not depend on numbers, but VC has higher stats than Pierce or Allen. If VC doesn't make it, it's robbery.

Butler and Garnet got selected and didn't play, and Sheed and Allen were replacements

Rondo is the 4th option on his team. Nelson.....really?...Harris and Carter are a 2 person show, and unless Lopez is hitting shots the entire de. just collapses on Harris because we have 2 starters who do very little. It's actually impressive that Harris can have any success given how much attention he gets and how much our SF and PF's dont get.

Sloth, Ben Gordon is not a candidate.

I believe Harris will make the team, I'm just not so sure that he should. I don't think Vince will make it.

Rondo may be the 4th option, but his team got off to the best start in NBA history. His improved play is a large part of that. All 4 Celtics should make the team. Ray didn't deserve to make the team last year, but this year he does without question. He's arguably been Boston's best player.

It's not all about the stats, true, but carter has a lot more than than stats, he is the leader of a team that is supposed to be last in the east, but, instead, is hovering around .500

if ray allen is a lock then VC is a no brainer imo

The thing I hate is that when a team is doing good, their best players make the team almost always, no matter how their playing. For example, take the Pistons from a few years ago, they were having a great year as a TEAM and 4 of their players made the All-Star team which left off a lot of other good players that should've made it. Now take Boston this season, having a great year as a TEAM and their most likely going to have 3 All-Stars from that team. Garnett will get voted in, Ray Allen actually deserves it but Paul Pierce on the other hand doesn't deserve it. He's having a terrible year but it's being hidden because his team is so good. They guy is shooting 41% from the field and averaging 18/6/4. Those are definitely not All-Star calibre numbers, especially the shooting %. If Boston is going to have 3 All-Stars, Rondo should be on the team over Pierce.

From my perspective the team should go as follows:

    Starting Line up:

    C: Dwight Howard
    PF: Kevin Garnett
    SF: LeBron James
    SG: Dwyane Wade
    PG: Allen Iverson

    Reserves:

    G: Devin Harris
    G: Joe Johnson
    F: Danny Granger
    F: Chris Bosh
    C: Zydrunas Illgauskas
    WC: Ray Allen
WC: Between Vince Carter, Rajon Rondo, Jameer Nelson, Rashard Lewis

It all depends on the team's record. If the Nets are above .500 by a few games by the time the reserves are to be picked, I can see both Vince and Devin making it. But if their below .500 I can only see one of them making it, which will most likely be Devin because he's having a great season and getting a lot of hype.

Joe Johnson is a "lock" for the team? No, he isn't.

Harris has been the best point guard in the east this season. So, yes, he does.

Of course Johnson is a lock. The Hawks are 18-10 and JJ is playing like a superstar averaging 23 pts, 5 rebs, and 6 assists. His inclusion on the All-Star team is a no-brainer.

I agree with much of this, but Pierce will make it. The Celtics are his team after all.

Harris would make it easily over Ray and it's arguable with Johnson. Him and Joe should be the East guard reserves.

Harris would make it easily over Rondo regardless of the Celtics' record. The record's great and he's been putting up great numbers but it helps that he's the fourth option on his own team with the others commanding a large amount of attention to opposing defenses.

It shouldn't come down to this but for argument's sake, Granger's listed as a forward. Harris has just simply been playing better than Nelson - and I know how great Nelson's been playing lately.

Come on, you know how sensational this season has been for Harris.

I agree with the OP that VC should get the nod over DHarris if it comes down to the two, but I do believe both of them should make it to the All-Star team...

I don't think anyone can disagree with Harris being an All-Star this year. Every coach in the league would have to agree with that too or at least the ones he's played against.

He might not make the team but he still has played like one this year.

I hate wasting the spot on a backup center. They should chuck that stupid rule.

It's bad enough they waste at least on spot a year on fan voting.
