Ask a baseball fan from Pittsburgh or Kansas City the same question and they are not likely to mention their teams. Those teams have almost no chance to turn it around within 5 years....it takes a long time to build a farm system and it also takes some fortunate breaks along the way....the poster franchise for low payroll turnaround is the Tampa Bay Rays, but they have been building that system with top picks for years....and we still have not seen if they can maintain it with the Yankees spending a cool billion this offseason....

Dude you are talking to a guy that watched his baseball team lose 119 games in 04 and make it to a world series. I KNOW SOMETHING ABOUT LOSING here. Your not talking to a Pat fan that lost his QB for the year. Ask the Royal fan and he will say without a doubt give them five years and they will compeate.
The 119 loss Tigers sucked, I wont argue that; However, they didnt suck because of their media market or because of their payroll. They sucked because they had bad players. Detroit is a HUGE media market when compared to all those teams, so do not pretend that you know how it feels to be a fan of a team that cannot compete(Lions withstanding). The Pirates, Royals, and about 10 other teams have very little hope of ever winning a title again under this system. Occasionally, one of them might catch lightning in a bottle and steal a title. There is no way that Pirate fans, in the midst of a long series of losing seasons, expect to go to the World Series within 5 years....
1) the exercise didn't ask if the team would be competitive, it asked for championship victories 2) every NFL could win a title in that time frame if the picks and free agency worked out right 3) that cannot be said about baseball, because there are a handful of baseball teams that cant use free agency to add good players, its just too expensive, and because the draft in baseball takes years before it produces results, David Price like phenoms withstanding
