http://www.fannation.com/si_blogs/hot_stove/posts/37062-giants-willing-to-take-chance-on-crede There were rumors of the Giants trading for him last off season as well. I think I'd pass on Crede if I were Sabes. He's not healthy enough, and I'd rather see what Travis Ishikawa has at first base. I wouldn't hate it, but they definetly shouldn't offer anything longer than a one year deal.
I think Travis will get playing time regardless. Figure if Sandoval catches 40 games, spells Crede for 20 games or so, and plays 80 games at first, that leaves 80 for TI. Plus, I think he'll be a late inning defensive replacement pretty regularly. But I'd still rather trade for Cantu, I don't care if he can't play D.
UPDATE: GIANTS OFFER ONE YEAR DEAL http://cbs5.com/sports/joe.crede.offer.2.929605.html Hopefully they don't tie up too much money for him considering he is returning from an injury and could very well go down again. It would also make it easier to trade him to a contender for prospects if the Giants are out of it. And they shouldn't in any way shape or form offer more than one year. I want the kids to play, but it makes more sense to have Pablo at first than third, especially w/ Renteria not having a lot of range. Crede is damn good w/ the glove.
