His game also isn't predicated on freakish athleticism, so he has some staying power. It would behoove him, however, to develop a reliable outside jumper.
It is still interesting to me that over the course of the last month we have discussed how Kidd, Jefferson, and Carter are all still really good players. (And i agree btw) Yet the last year and a half they all played together the team was far from good. How can that be? What happened there?
Larry Bird once said that he'd never coach a team for more than 3 seasons because after that the players stop listening to you. I wonder if there's a similar problem with talented players. The Billups/Hamilton/Wallaces Pistons seemed like the perfect fit, but eventually the formula just stopped working. Part of that was Ben Wallace slowing down, but a lot of it I think is just that a team gets stagnant over time and you need new blood to revitalize the team. Even the Jordan Bulls were much differently constructed in their second threepeat than their first. Makes me wonder how realistic many of us are being in assuming Oden, Aldridge, Roy, Bayless, Batum and Fernandez will be on this team for at least the next decade. Five years from now we may have only two or three of those guys left.
Player A: 10.7 ppg/4.9 apg/2.7 rpg 42% FG, 42% 3pt, 85% FT Player B: 9.2 ppg/8.4 apg/6.1 rpg 42% FG, 40% 3pt, 82% FT It seems the consensus is that one of these starting PGs is having a "career" year, and one is "done". I guess I'm the dumb one...I'd rather have the over-the-hill Olympic PG, especially since he's still outplaying our starting PG.
Or to actually watch A game, as oppsoed to just commenting on the box score, which is where Eric gets the majority of his basketball knowledge from.
Not only is he not done, but according to Cuban, he is the second best player in the NBA!!! http://blogmaverick.com/2009/02/08/nba-all-stars-by-the-numbers/
Kidd is gonna be three points off a triple double for every game for the rest of his career Learn the game then post Checkmate
Kidd looked very mediocre out there tonight, he is indeed done and Dallas just took some egg to the face with the Harris deal..it'll turn out worse than the Jo for Davis deal..ouch..Dallas=out of the playoffs next season.
I was sort of agreeing with Kingspeed about Kidd but after watching him last night he isn't done. He might not be as good as he once was but still better then most of the PG's in the league and a whole lot better then our 3 PG's. I think now if we can't get A.Miller next year signing Kidd for 2 years wouldn't be that bad. I think having Bayless play behind Kidd for 1 or 2 years would really help him. I don't care if we still have Sergio as long as he is our 3rd PG. I would probably rather have Kidd/Bayless and someone else then Blake or Sergio so Nate is forced to play Bayless as the backup PG. I thought his defense was one of his weak points but he played better defense then Blake or Sergio.
