Those quotes are from the Magic Johnson one on one interview he did with Kobe.

Love it! But I believe he also said without Fish and Horry.

I haven't seen the Magic interview, I just read that over at LG.

Is that true? Would Phil retire if he won?

Yeah it's possible. They talk about it all the time on the local radio shows. However his buddy Charlie Rosen thinks PJax will coach again win or lose. If he wins he passes Red, and his motivation to coach another season will be to break Riley's record of 4 titles in LA.

I never even thought about Phil breaking Riley's record. He's always been linked to Red.

I don't know, I can see Phil stepping down and taking on an executive role.

I thought I read somewhere earlier in the year that said Phil will at least coach through his contract, which I thought ended next year, and then go from there.

And I am not convinced that would be a success. He hasn't built a single one of the teams he won a championship with. He came in when the pieces were already in place.

We can't really comment on this since we don't know what type of executive role Phil would take.

Well I'm basing that post on if he took a basketball decision-making role.

You don't think he has done a good job with this Lakers' team? Yeah, we got Gasol but for the most part he has been a part of the drafting process and the building process.

He sure did a pretty good job coaching a team of Kobe Bryant and crap to almost upsetting the Phoenix Suns.

And LMAO @ Mamba defending Phil.

Well if Kobe was replaced with a Ray Allen, Paul Pierce, Vince Carter, Tracy McGrady, Stackhouse, Redd, or other combinations. (I don't think AI would have worked, but JKidd + a decent SG) With a prime Shaq, an allstar guard, and Phil there definitely could be multiple championships during that span.

    LOL, I can't believe I'm defending Phil.

I do think that if Phil wins this one, that he brought this team up from nothing. He wasn't handed a team, this time. He has been a part of this building process since 2006. He's been through the struggles of not getting out of the 1st round, to failing last year, to being in prime position again this year.

Maybe, I don't know. Shaq is good but he's needed an absolute Superstar at SG to win a title, not even Penny was enough.

Nothing against him or Phil though, they're both great obviously.

Shaq wasn't in his prime when he was with Orlando.

I agree, I think any good, above average, borderline all-star guard could've won a ring with Shaq.

True he did get better here. I just think it isn't a lock, the guy would definitely have to be an all-star not borderline. Probably superstar.

We barely got past Sac and Portland with a Kobe caliber guard, and Bryant having monster series against them.

Well the counter argument is if Shaq was replaced by Duncan or KG then the Lakers probably win 10 straight.
