I think the Warriors should consider making a trade for Marcus Camby or Zach Randolph for the right price. They have an abundance of bigs, and we have an abundance of guards. They seem to need scoring guards, and we could use a big or two.

Apparently Camby may be on the block/available according to ESPN http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/columns/story?columnist=stein_marc&page=TradeChatter-090624

I guess Zach Randolph may be a "cancer". But MAYBE he has matured a little? But he is a 20/10 guy who provides inside scoring and rebounding which the team needs. I'd trade Maggette and fillers for Zach (at the very least we get cap relief after two seasons). Though I am not sure how much they want Maggette back - maybe not much. I think I'd consider any deal without the core players (Ellis, Curry, Morrow, Jackson, AR, Biedrins) for Randolph.

Camby also helps two big needs with inside defense and rebounding. His offense perhaps faces the same limitations as Andris. But he is very mobile and could fit with Nelson's schemes and is a huge upgrade over Turiaf. I'd start with something like Azubuike, Turiaf, and Marco or Wright for Camby.

    What do you guys think?

I like these ideas more than the Amare ones, at least.

To Zach Randolph, I never liked his game. He puts up numbers, but not in the flow of the game. Personality aside, I'd still stay away. Camby would be ok if the price was right. He's well past his prime.

I don't understand why people are afraid of Stoudamire. Assuming he gets clearance from the medical staff. You're talking about one of the top 15-20 players in the league here. If he puts everything together, he's an elite player. I understand that people learn to love certain players, but this is Stoudamire. A lot of people complained that KG was past his prime, not a winner, etc. when the front office was looking at him. I just don't get it. You go get him and don't look back. Any holes that need filling, you fill with vets and D-Leaguers. And 55 wins later, you thank the front office for having the stones to make a move.

I would trade Maggette for Camby, but I don't know if the salaries match.

And hell no to Randolph. He's just a stat padder like Maggette. He won't help us at all. He's just a thug that can't play defense.

Camby is not that far passed his prime. He was still being a force two seasons ago for the Nuggets when he averaged his career best 3.6 blocks per game and 13.1 rebounds. Last season wasn't really that bad either. He still picked up 10 points, 11 boards, and 2 blocks per game. He's got one more season left on his contract, and I think it would be nice to have him around for at least one season.

I hear you. But... If Amare could defend, pass OR rebound like KG, I'd agree with you. If Amare were as durable as KG has been, I'd agree with you. But from what I have gathered, he is not.

Perhaps another idea would be to trade for Amare AND Camby.

Biedrins/Wright/Belinelli/Law/first round draft pick(?) for Amare
    Azubuike/Claxton for Camby

    Curry/CJ Watson?
    Ellis/Morrow
    Jackson/Maggette
    Amare/Randolph
    Camby/Turiaf

    Or maybe...

    Ellis/Curry
    Jackson/Morrow
    Randolph/Maggette
    Amare/Kurz?/Davidson?
    Camby/Turiaf

Maybe getting Amare AND Camby is very close to getting KG.

Then again these trade ideas could be HIGHLY unlikely. But just throwing stuff out there, since eh, it's the offseason...

Agree with Legacy- no on Randolph but I'd do Mags for Camby if it were available. But since Dunleavy is the GM of the Clips why would he bring Mags back when they seemed to clash constantly for years when they were there together? If we did do such a move it would allow us to really shop Beans hard for Amare though as Nellie would have a Beans-like player who also has a jumpshot and passes very well. Camby isn't that great, most Nuggets fans will tell you that his impact on defense isn't nearly what most of the nation thinks it is, but hes a solid player still and expiring so you'd have to take a trade like that.

How about David West though? The Hornets seem to be in terrible shape financially. They tried unsuccessfully to move Chandler during the trade deadline for cap relief. Are they desperate enough to move West? What if we gave them a nice package?

Boozer could also be a possibility in a S&T. Boozer, Okur, and Millsap are all FAs for Utah. Biedrins seems like a natural fit there as hes great on the pick and roll, has a reasonable contract, fills a major need for height/defense on the frontline, allows them to get value back for Boozer.

I don't know about West. I think he needs Chris Paul to succeed. Unless Monta, Curry, or Jackson could feed him the ball in the ways that Paul did, I don't think he will be as successful.

lol well apparently we just landed the next Steve Nash on Thursday according to Nellie, is that good enough?

Hate to get off topic but do you guys think that Curry is the PG that Nellie, D'Antoni/Walsh, Kerr/Gentry, Bobby Knight, etc. say he is? forgive me if this was already discussed but I just got back from camping and missed the draft completely. I personally didn't see it and his ast/TO ratio is horrible but one also has to consider the crazy amount of attention he received from defenses and how crappy his teammates were. If he had more talented teammates maybe that ast number jumps up and hes not pressured as much which drops his TOs. I will say that he does seem very under control, makes really good decisions, finds the open man, etc. I don't see him dropping gaudy assist numbers like Nash/Paul but I'll buy into him becoming a Billups-esque PG who plays with excellent control, makes the right decisions, shoots really well and is a decent penetrator, and is clutch. This topic has me wondering about it because some of you guys argue that the bigs we've been talking about acquiring- Amare, West, Boozer, Wilcox, or whoever- are better because they're next to a good PG but we don't have one. But if Curry is as good as some of these big time basketball figures claim he is then do we put our faith in Curry being able to make these guys look good just like a Paul, Nash, Billups, D. Williams would?

Clippers are also shopping Chris Kaman. I think Camby is the best fit short-term, but Kaman long term. Zach Randolph would be a terrible fit.

I'd probably rather have Beans than Kaman. Hes better at getting up and down the floor, better on the pick and roll, rebounding machine, no injury issues, younger, cheaper. They're about the same level of player but Kaman seems injury prone and seems like a bad fit here.

Even though they're shopping Kaman, they're asking alot more for him than they are for Camby. Plus, Kaman has a trade kicker, adding about $4 million to the rest of his contract, bringing it from $35 mil to $39 mil over 3 years. If we did end up doing the Biedrins deal a separate deal for Camby using other players would make tons of sense, but the only reasonable deal would be Maggette for Camby and as it was mentioned, I doubt Dunleavy wants backsies on that deal. Camby is expiring, but some contending club will consider a rental or some team looking for cap space would also love that contract. Thus it doesn't make sense from a Clippers point of view even if it did alot from the Warriors side.

He is a good passer and a good leader, two things that could potentially make a good PG, but it's too hard to tell. Personally I think he's a much better SG candidate than PG, although I think that he's a better PG candidate than Monta?

His story actually does remind of Billups. However, Billups took a while to get it going. For his first five years, Billups was still finding his way after coming out of a smaller program (Colorado-Boulder, a school that was basically off the map til Billups) as a shoot-first type PG (and he still is that kind of PG). He got off to a rocky NBA start moving around 5 different teams and surviving through a bad shoulder injury. Coaches didn't think he was a true PG, but you know how the rest story goes. Curry had even less help at Davidson than Billups did at CO, but Curry still managed to lead them to some pretty impressive successes. Unlike Billups, I think Curry will get more chances and trust given to him than Billups. Although I don't think Curry's defense is as good as Billup's at the same stage in his career, there's alot of other similarities. Now, I'm not saying that Curry is gonna be even close to Billups, but rather that Billups story is awesome and rare, but there's always the chance that Curry's could succeed in that role if he was given it because he has most of the same tools.

I was actually thinking of the negative side - that Curry would turn into first-five-year Billups and never recover. But I continued on with the rest of the Billups story because that story always makes me smile?

You don't think the Clippers would take Azubuike and expiring contracts for Camby? Or would you not want to see the Warriors make that kind of trade?

Azubuike and Claxton for Camby works according to realgm's trade checker. I know the Clippers were interested in Azubuike last offseason, but we matched their offer to keep him here in Oakland. I am not sure if that is really enough to get Camby though.

Biedrins, Camby, Randolph, Turiaf is a pretty decent front court. There's some good depth. Camby may not be Howard or KG on defense, but he's an improvement there, as well as on the boards.

I also do not want Kaman.

I don't want to see Azubuike sent away, but he is kind of buried behind a lot of guys now, if Curry is going to play 20+ minutes, as it appears he may.

I also have zero interest in Kaman, we absolutely do not need him.

My basic concern is that there's no desire on the Clippers side to get rid of Camby for anything less than some draft picks or younger talent, and Azubuike/Claxton wouldn't be enough. *Edit: Also forgot to add the CBA thing that prevents Claxton or Law being easily moved right now: Claxton (nor Law) can be packaged in a deal where we send more than just Claxton or Law for 2 months. We can send Claxton alone in a trade, or Law alone, but Claxton can't be added with Azubuike or a draft pick or anything.

Ya, they're essentially trade deadline bait.

No to Camby; ABSOLUTELY NO TO ZACH RANDOLPH!!! Does anybody even look at the past? That guy has done absolutely zilch to redeem himself except shoot the ball once he gets it. If I was going on hiatus when the gut the roster for Stoudamire, I will be a Warrior hater if they were to get Randolph. Even Nellie knows better than that.

Looks like the Grizzlies are taking the gamble with Zach Randolph, basically having swapped him for Darko's expiring contract. Q's declined greatly in his past few years but he's at least still a professional, unlike Randolph who's known to have been a little off-kilter. The Grizzlies must have been pretty desperate for a big man.

I still expect the Clippers to try to get some return for Camby, but they're definitely going to be asking for alot. It might be until midseason that a team in the running will give up some of their future for him. I could see Camby going to San Antonio, Dallas, or Chicago for some value if they were doing well mid-season.
