I'd sure love to get Bass here to be our backup PF. And since it looks like he's looking at getting less money, that's not bad either.

Bass would be a very good addition at less-than-MLE dollars. If we could add Miller AND Bass with the cap space we have, I think it would be a reasonably good summer.

Bass is young and skilled offensively. He's been in the NBA for four seasons but just turned 24 in April. Still could have significant potential to get better as he gets more experience actually playing. He'd be a very good backup at the 4 position.

Of course, it would make the early second rounders we used on the college seniors look even worse... but that's no reason not to make a move on Bass.

Now he just needs to convince KP that he is better than Pendergraph.

Then see what SF we can get for Outlaw, Blake, and maybe Webster?

I suppose... I really don't think that we'd be able to get a significant upgrade with all of those parts unless we can provide some salary relief.

We had three specifics of where the team should improve:

    -- PG
    -- SF
    -- Backup PF

The team has really, at this point, only addressed the third one... and in my opinion a pair of early second rounders is anything but a surefire way to improve the position.

At this point, if we can totally seal the backup 4 position up (which I think adding Bass would do) AND address one of the other two I'll be pleased. I'm not expecting all three to be massively upgraded.

I'm not in a huge rush to trade anyone on our roster, although I suspect to get Miller in addition to Bass we'd probably have to move Blake to make the salary cap work for us.

We are really fast at this forum lol we have all eyes on RealGM and any other hoops related site lol.

Anyhow, this is great news! I would be super happy if this is all we did in the off season, is get Bass. That would make me very, very happy! Then he and Jeff can fight for backup 4 minutes! This makes me very happy!

Bass is still a terrible defender, and he's not as skilled offensively as the current back-up PF, Travis Outlaw. The Blazers don't need help rebounding, so I have to wonder why Portland would spend cap space on a player who is a downgrade offensively from the current back-up PF. May as well see if one of the 2nd-round picks can bang a bit, and at a fraction of Bass' cost.

I think of it like this. If we get Bass, that pretty much makes Outlaw a 3 and not a 4. So now, our 3 spot is pretty solid IMO. Batum, Outlaw and Webster (possibly Cunningham) IMO is a pretty solid 3 headed monster. I can live with that. I am not ready to give up on Travis.

Bass, Pendergraph for backup 4? I am very pleased with that.

I don't think Dallas is the front runner. The agent made a point to say that Dallas is still an option but he also said that talks are being held up by McDyess (which wouldn't affect the Mavs). This makes me think that Dallas is out of the running and their focusing on these three squads.

Also, I talked to him minutes after the Marcin Gortat to Dallas story broke (I actually broke the news to him) and he seemed kinda peeved. I think that's when talks with Dallas broke down.

How many more years until you are ready to "give up" on a 6 year veteran who has always hovered around average in PER and plays no defense?

Somehow Frye got into 63 games last year. If we have Bass on the roster playing those minutes last year the team would have been better.

He's not a good defensive player, but he'd be better at guarding power forwards than Outlaw and I think that he's capable of being more consistent than Outlaw because of his superior ability to draw fouls (16.6% draw foul rate, compared to Travis's 10.4%). Outlaw put no pressure on defenders because he'd just shoot over them. With a player like Bass coming in on the second unit, he'd help get opponents' bigs in foul trouble.

As for the second rounders: we'll wait and see, of course, but I don't think that either player was particularly impressive in college in spite of their 8 years of combined experience and I think it would be a grave error to depend on them to match--let alone surpass--Frye's contributions last year.

Bass is only two years younger than Pendergraph and Cunningham, but he's a far superior player IMO.
