Yeah, it hurt what Amare said about signing an extension with GSW, but could he have a change of heart? If Larry Ellison was the owner, I'm sure he would but let's deal with reality.

Let's revisit the deal for Amare which the Warriors and Nelson turned down. I believe the deal PHX proposed was Andris Biedrins, Brandan Wright, Marco Belinelli and Stephen Curry for Amare and Earl Clark.

Marco would not be a deal breaker, so if we replaced him with an expiring contract or two, Acie Law and a future first round pick may make it work. So the deal would be AB, BW, Speedy Claxton ($5.2 M expiring), Acie Law and the Warriors 2010 first round pick for Amare and Earl Clark. Acie and Speedy can be traded after August 25th.

I dunno if Acie sweetens the pot enough though and Amare is adamant about playing PF and not center.

I would give up anyone but Randolph, Biedrins, and Ellis.

I think some deal would have already happened if the Warriors didn't think Amare was damaged goods.

Nope. The deal was Biedrins, Wright, Belinelli for Amare. Suns were NEVER giving up Earl Clark. Not true, and only place mentioning it was a homer Warrior blog. Suns walked away because it was Biedrins and role players (not even fair value) and they wouldn't give up Randolph or Curry. Warriors walked away because they refused to give up one. Neither would budge.

Don't buy any of that talk by Amare either. He would accept an extension from Golden St (or almost anywhere). He also told PHX he would play C, so he is open to it.

But if the deal is revisited, you can't give up a 2010 pick, GS owes NJ a pick between now and few yr's. I do think it can revisited though. If Warriors thought he were "damaged goods" they wouldn't have been as close as they were originally. As for the rest of it, pretty much a given Biedrins is a must in any deal, and Claxton, Law would not sweeten anything.

As far as I can concern, this deal is dead. First, Stoudmire would have to agree on contract extension, and I doubt he will agree on anything less than max amount/year to play for us. And, Warriors will never give that contract to Stoudmire either. Second, we had better chance before the summer league than now, since Curry struggled quite a bit...

Well, we still need a backup PF/C and who can we get at this point? Even Rob Kurz is gone.

Here's the latest I could find on potential Amare deals. The Warriors could be waiting for the latest news on his eye condition:
I'm hearing fresh, credible rumblings that the Suns remain open to the possibility of trading Amare Stoudemire before the season, offsetting recent suggestions that they were leaning toward taking Stoudemire completely off the trade market between now and training camp.

Trading Stoudemire, however, continues to be complicated, just as it was around the February trade deadline and again at the draft. Any team interested is going to want some sort of clear indication that it can re-sign Stoudemire, who has the right to become a free agent on July 1, 2010.

The news, furthermore, that Stoudemire also needed additional work last week on his surgically repaired eye adds to a medical history that -- in spite of what ranks as the most emphatic comeback ever from microfracture knee surgery -- is bound to give suitors pause.

Suns president of basketball operations Steve Kerr acknowledged at a news conference in Phoenix earlier this week for the signing of Channing Frye that an extension for Stoudemire won't be considered until team officials can see Stoudemire play because "the eye situation was more serious than what we first thought."

    Amare Insults Golden State Again!!!

The Amare deal is officially dead. LOL.

On his "Jim Rome is Burning" appearance (seen here), Stoudemire re-emphasized his desire to win and said the current Suns team "could definitely do some damage in the playoffs" and that "there's enough room at the top so the Phoenix Suns are coming." He also called this the "post-career" for Nash and Hill.

"The good thing about my situation is that I don't think a team would want to acquire me if I'm not going to sign for an extension," Stoudemire told Rome, who asked about the Suns' exploration into trading him to Golden State. "As far as, let's say Golden State, if they wanted me to come to Golden State and if I didn't want to sign with them for the extra four or five years, I don't think they would want to acquire me. The ball's kind of in their court."

I think he means he would be a snob as far as which teams he would want to play for. I mean, every team will probably offer him a good deal, so he would probably want to take his pick.

It's kind of funny, because throughout history, many of the true great players have made their team a winner. Truly great players do not need to go try to piggy back on someone else's success to be a winner. Of course, if you have several teams to choose from, you would want to pick one where you would want your family to live in that city, and maybe a system that you think you would be best suited for. In other words, GS would be a great fit for Amare.

But this business of turning your nose up at teams who aren't already contenders... IMO that just shows you're inferiority. Pick a good city and a good system, and go make that team a contender. You're the one who's supposed to be great...

Denny, I understand that is what Amare is saying. However, why in the world would I want to offer someone huge bucks for four or five years if he doesn't want to be here in the first place except for the money? We already got that with our Coach/GM Don Nelson. Yet, with the Warriors management, who knows what they will do with "the ball in their court." If I was dealing with Amare, I'd take it and go home. Time to look elsewhere and develop our young players.

He's not exactly saying it's all about money.

He might be convinced to sign an extension, and one not at $MAX, if he is convinced the team is committed to winning championships.

Well, we differ on him saying whether it's about the money or not, but I'm willing to keep an open mind about him signing for less than the max.

Still, the deal breaker is whether he is convinced the team is committed to winning championships. Amare can't pull a rabbit out of a hat if there's no hat.

The SF Bay Area is a wonderful place to live, I'm sure he'd find that attractive.

The Warriors have generally been a losing team for such a long time that it would take an entire shakeup of the organization to get anyone like Amare to buy into the idea that they're all of a sudden all about winning.

He sounds motivated at least. Not sure how much has to do with his legacy and how much it has to do with his pocket book.
