I guess my point is that the Warriors shouldn't be done with roster moves. Minus Belinelli, they still have too many similarly talented role players. They need to turn those into something. Between Claxton and Law (and perhaps Watson), we only need one of those guys. So, I don't expect them to hold onto them as the team is still deficient in the front court, even with Beans/Turiaf/Randolph/Wright. Would you guys be happy if we had a surplus of back-up point guards with expiring contracts for all of next year? I think it would be more productive to turn those into talent we could use. Even when the Warriors make a pure financial move, such as not extending Baron Davis, we can't trust them to do something good with it (i.e. Maggette).
I'd give you the benefit of a doubt if it was a salary dump, but the Warriors are keeping George. They want to play him, so it was likely a Nelson move. Nelson lost interest in Belinelli, was not planning to play him much and so it did not make sense to give Belinelli a qualifying offer. I hope Nelson & Company gives Brandan Wright a qualifying offer because it would be a disaster with our first round picks in recent years if he doesn't. We already lost one with Belinelli. One rule of thumb for keeping track of Nelson deals are how well ex-Warriors develop or do with the teams they got traded to. Usually they do much better than they did with the Warriors and flourish. If Marco becomes a starter or capable sixth man, then Nelson blew another one and got bung-holed beyond belief.
Yea bro, I wouldn't troll and I never have. And I for sure wouldn't do it in the Warriors forum where everyone is JBB
Thanks for the link Kajita. Hopefully they don't just let the contracts run out and actually make some trades
Here's a list of top 10 players likely to be traded this season ... Not very appealing, but an indicator of teams looking for cap space. Knicks & Nets being mentioned most.
Yeah, that's a great link DK. To CH: Actually, maybe it would be better to let them expire and be a player in the 2010 FA market instead? To Shape: No, not very appealing at all...
I wouldn't mind Battie at all. He's too expensive, but the Warriors could definitely use him, especially with Davidson not signed.
This move sucks. Us Laker fans would know. LOL Bellinelli was way better with almost the same contract.
I can't stop laughing at Shapecity's post. LOL! I must say the George trade was a bad one. I'd rather have Belinelli. I had high hopes for that player. Instead we give up a high potential player for a older veteran role player... uggg... At least save up Belinelli for a better role player like Mike Miller or Rafer Alston... God sakes...
Why not trade Monta Ellis for Derek Fisher? Or if not Steph Curry? Hell, throw a 2 for 1 deal to get Fisher!
True, D-Fish is a proven vet. I also hear Cohan and Rowell are thinking of doing Andris Biedrins for Patrick Ewing to bring some veteran leadership to the locker-room.
That's a pretty good too. We all know how many titles Patrick has won, so he will immediately revitalize the winner inside Devean George, and mark my words, your acquisition of D-Fish for Ellis and Curry will be the steal of the off-season. Fish is gonna win back-to-back MVP's ala Steve Nash.
Since we're doing proven Laker winners (this seems to be a nice recipe to build a championship team: give up all of your young and talented players for aging scrubs) I think we should bring in Big Shot Bob. I know we can't trade for him, so maybe we can cut Anthony Morrow to make room for him? This way, we still give up a young talented player, and we bring in a cagey vet. Probably save Cohan some extra dough, too, which doesn't hurt. Fisher Jax George Horry Ewing That's a solid starting 5
Best starting 5 in the league. Wait, you need to replace Jax. He may be old, but he's still talented, so he needs to go. Waive Randolph and Jax and I suggest that you sign a proven Laker vet in Byron Scott. He can be a coach too!
Fisher Byron George Horry Patrick If that doesn't sound like a winner to you, then you're a loser. With that line-up, GS will probably have the lowest salary in the League. Cohen's gotta love that.
This really isn't even a salary dump, because all we had to do is not to exercise Marco's 4th year contract, and we ends up with his expiring contract instead. We traded Marco just to receive the cash, and even for Cohan's standard, this is a dirt cheap move. And, I seriously don't expect Warriors to make any move with expiring contracts, since we already committed for 50 mils in next year, and salary cap/luxury tax threshhold will drop dramatically. And again, if we were planning to make any move with George's contract, we could have done the same with Marco's contract. Sure, Marco might not have gotten a playing time in current situation. However, as we experienced last year, injury could have bitten us once again. And, who knows who will outperform who during the training camp, since our wings are still very young? Also, just because we have too many wings, that doesn't mean we should give away something for free. Mullin just exited, and this is not a good official start by any stretch of imagination...
