Source: Contra Costa Times Finally some good news for the Warriors. Looking this scrub in for 3 years would have been a huge mistake.
The only way I feel adding Watson for 1 year or 3 years is good is if we trade Law and Claxton. We don't need 3 backup PG's! You're right though, at least they didn't lock him up for multiple years. Watson has been pretty honest about the situation but I think he will make the most of it.
$1.5M a year for C.J. Watson is a "bargain"? Wow. He's a serviceable backup, but please come back to reality. Oh well, best of luck to him cashing in, I'm certainly happy to not have him signed for 3 years. We should know if we have something in Curry after this year.
He's prime a trading deadline piece. A team making a push will lose a point guard and he'll step in the way Alston did last year.
Yeah, if I was his agent I would have told him to go for the security, but I'm personally happy to have him for only 1 year. We can bring Curry along slower, and just hope that the team moves wisely and phases him out/trades him when Curry is past the initial learning stage.
While I am happy that Watson is only signed for 1 year, it's rather sad to see it happening too. Watson had an option to take 3 years/4.5 mils or 1 year qualifying offer, and he took 1 year qualifying offer just to get out of here after a year. Tells quite a bit about our team at this point. And, in order for Watson to be traded, he has to waive no-trade clause, since he accepted the qualifying offer. And, I think the article is not right about Watson's status next season, because Watson was restricted FA this offseason, and he will be unrestricted FA next offseason. AFAIK, only 1st rounder becomes restricted FA (if the team chooses to do so) at their 3rd and 4th year...
I think it's okay Kwan. Watson will still be restricted if he stays the whole year. However, don't you think he'll be traded. I agree with CohanHater and that Watson will be another good trading piece later as teams with a lack of PGs like the Miami Heat will want a PG.
