This rookie hold out nonsense has become a real issue for the NFL. Hopefully it's addressed at some point similar to what the NBA did with their rookie hold outs. If he ends up back in the 2010 draft do the 49ers get a compensation pick or do they still own his rights?

The Niners should really play hardball with him since if he goes back in the draft there's no way he's a first round pick, maybe not even a first day pick and he won't get close to the amount of money he can get now. Someone close to him has got to tell him this and make him understand. The niners should tell him that starting today his contract offer goes down by $X/day until he signs.
I'm pretty sure the Bucs got nothing in the way of compensation picks when Bo Jackson didn't sign with them. Bo re-entered the draft and in doing so the Bucs lost his rights. He was then taken in the 7th round by the Raiders. If, however, Crabtree decides to play in another football league such as the CFL or the new one that's starting this year, the 49ers would retain his NFL rights.
No compensation if they do not sign him. Consider that the Raiders are, through no fault of their own, screwing with the 49ers and the Bengals....The 49ers can't get the deal done because Crabtree wants a deal based on what Heyward-Bey got(hes wrong), while the Bengals dont want to pay Andre Smith more than Heyward-Bey because they say the Raiders overpaid the 7th pick(the team is wrong in this case)....a team that is willing to pay the slot should trade for Smith's rights, but Crabtree is putting himself in a position to become irrelevant very quickly.
I keep reading that Crabtree and others say the Raiders overpayed DHB but is that really true? Seems like he got payed fairly according to where he was slotted and based on Vernon Gholston as the #7 pick the year before.

I don't know about that. Why wouldn't he want to go to a team that has realistic playoff hopes with a running game where he would be the #1 guy. He thought he would be a top pick so it's not like he could have thought he was going to go to a contender. And the niners would have been crazy not to take him. Even knowing what we know now I'd still take him. He's a huge value talent wise and you got to think that at some point he'll wise up and sign. Sitting out would be career suicide. WHY CAN'T HE SEE THAT!!!!!
Considering Crabtree may not play this year, I'll give you that. Let's see how much you love HB once the drops start piling up (That's provided that someone can actually put the ball anywhere near his hands, of course)
Still pissed that we didn't grab Raji or Monroe (Mario Henderson has been good at LT though) but I'm glad we took DHB over Crabtree. Even with his shitty hands the guy is already drawing double teams consistently which is the main reason we took him. If the trend continues and teams have to shade over to his side to prevent the deep pass from Jamarcus it just makes things that much easier for McFadden, Schilens, Z. Miller, etc. Jamarcus is passing the ball fine in preseason when the O-Line gives him time. He'll never be the most accurate QB around but if nothing else the guy is pretty good at limiting turnovers. He'll be a huge key this season but in the end the success of the team comes down to our dominance on the ground and whether we can stop the run defensively (doesn't look like that problem has been fixed).

This kinda stuff is just ridiculous. The NFL needs to address the way rookie contracts are done, and maybe go to something similar to the NBA. Rookies shouldn't be getting paid more than established NFL stars, and some of them are. It's just ridiculous to make that kind of money before you actually step foot on the field. They should have to actually play for their first big contract instead of getting a huge one before stepping on the field like they currently do.
Crabtree is delusional. How the hell do you turn down 16 million guaranteed, let alone 20 million? So he thinks that by sitting out for a year, working at McDonalds, he can re-enter the draft next year with an entire year away from football, and have a team give him the 40 million he's looking for? Someone needs to beat some sense into this guy.
