    Oh snap! :NOTMARIS:

Merriman not coming back? He's my favorite non-Eagle. Reid and Heckert better make their move, he needs to be in green!

Brees, Turner, now Merriman? Damn you almost can't give away that kind of talent, glad I'm not a Charger fan or I would be disappointed.

Not disappointed. This is old news.

Charger fans have known that this is more than likely his last season with us since before even last year's injury. His off the field antics and love of the celebrity lifestyle has really gotten under a lot of the fans skins and especially the management's skin.

I'm not too worried. He hasn't proven shit since coming back from the knee injury and I think Larry English is enough to replace him if in fact he does end up leaving SD.

Also, Acee has a horrible reputation with his news, but even I could've written this article because the signs have been there for 2+ years, now.

He'll end up somewhere like New England.

He'll be in Dallas with Ware and it will be the first time in NFL history where a team will get negative rushing yards every game.

Why don't they trade him now and get something in return if they aren't going to bring him back? The Patriots got what will probably end up being a top 5 pick for Richard Seymour, who is older and also only has one year left on his deal. Surely the Chargers could get the same or more for Merriman.

I think the Patriots should have aimed for an established player. Since SD has a younger core with Rivers/Jackson/whatever, I could understand a draft pick though.

If the Chargers don't plan on bringing him back, it would be stupid to let him walk away for nothing, like they did to Turner and Rivers. Merriman is still young as hell, he's only what, 24? 25? Like Thrilla said, if the Pats could get a potential top 5 pick for Seymour, the Chargers, IMO, sure as hell can get a decent 1st round pick for Merriman.

I still don't understand why going to parties and having some fun off the field negates him as a player in any way. He's still one of the best linebackers in the league, and he's still very young. But hey, if the Chargers don't want him, I'm sure many other teams will. I just don't understand why they would let him go :dunno:

Naw, NE did right. Bill Belichick is smart. He'll either get someone really good @ that top 5 pick (come on, its the Raiders--could be a top 3), or he'll trade it for like 2 or 3 draft picks come time. I like that trade for them.

If push comes to shove, we'll trade Merriman. I think AJ Smith is going to see how he impacts our team this year and see what kind of stats he puts up. If he does get back to form, maybe they'll try to work something out? Shawne loves San Diego, he loves Los Angeles, I think he wants to stay here. It is up to management.

He get caught up in bad press.

He's had the steroid issue. He's had one of his Mercedes stolen from him and burned to a clump of metal. He's had this thing with Tila Tequila. He put off his surgery for two years, and then put it off after the playoff loss to NE, only to have it after last season started.

He took a job as a analyst for FOX pre-game show last season against AJ Smith's wishes, as well.

Yeah Bill did very well for his team, the non-contending one of the future. I didn't know they had the Superbowl locked up this year already, they need to take advantage of their upcoming playoff runs.

I don't know it seemed like all was well with Merriman until this incident.

    Far from it.

His off the field antics and love for the celebrity lifestyle has always been an issue here.

How is having TWO OLBs that don't play the run going to help them do that?
