    Specifically Sjax and Monta's comments.

Obviously, not a very positive day for the Warriors and I'm feeling a little betrayed and a little glad that Sjax made those comments (more on Monta later).

He basically called out Bobby Rowell big time, saying Rowell offered him a contract he didn't have to, but he took it anyway because that's "common sense." I don't blame Sjax for that. But what's always bothered me about Sjax is his constant finger pointing. On and off the court.

On the court, as we all know, he bitches and whines about not getting foul calls and to boot, doesn't run back on defense as if he's rebelling against the refs. Now with this trade talk, instead of owning up to his contract, he's basically putting all the blame on the Warriors front office, which isn't wrong in anyway; I actually agree with everything he's saying.

And that's the part where I'm torn. I think it's probably a big blow to the front office to hear this from their "top" player on media day, a day where it's about promoting the team. But, as a fan, you want your players to conduct themselves like professionals, like adults. He's feeling entitled. His behavior is telling the young players it's okay to act like this...it's okay to have no regrets, as he so eloquently put. I understand he's an emotional guy, but sometimes you need to control your emotions. I mean, his attitude right now is not upping his trade value. Yes, he'll still get paid the same either way, but if he really wants out of GS, he needs to make himself more trade worthy. The FO already said they will trade him only if it helps out the team.

Monta Ellis. I actually don't have a problem with anything he's said. I think his comments have been taken completely out of context and there's no underlying message about him being upset they drafted a PG. He's saying from a basketball perspective, it wouldn't make sense to play him and Curry together in the backcourt right now. Curry's a rookie and he's got a lot to learn. There will be a lot of defensive deficiencies with that combination. This is what Larry Riley was saying too when they drafted him: he won't be in the starting lineup right away.

I think part of the problem with Sjax and Monta is that they're just not that smart. They don't know how to put thoughts into the proper words or sentences. They don't know how to elaborate on their thoughts. I can tell Sjax is trying to be a good teammate but not throwing them under the bus, but he doesn't understand you can't say one thing and then cover it up with a disclaimer. There are many ramifications when you open your mouth like Sjax did. Plus, I think he'll get fined for saying he has no regrets going into the stands.

Luckily, I think our young core is pretty mature and well-spoken. Much more than Sjax and Monta. Curry's a true professional. Randolph seems to take this controversy in stride...he just wants to play, damn it! Morrow the same. Biedrins, well, apparently he likes to party it up in Latvia and get kicked off the national team. LOL

I'll give you Monta, but Jax is pretty smart. Which is why Nelly respects him so much. I wouldn't worry about Jax. He's been completely honest about the business side of basketball. Monta doesn't understand that he's being brutally honest about decisions that are not his and aren't about business, but about the team. He's painting himself as a poor teammate...not wanting to play with someone. Jackson's saying that he's a veteran that wants to play for a winner, that's a much different statement IMO

If it's all about wanting to win, I'd expect a top money player to shut up and play. I understand Stephen Jackson is Stephen Jackson, but he's got a contract to fulfill. If he truly wants to be traded, then he didn't do himself any favors. That's not very smart.

They're both idiots. Monta sounds butthurt that Curry was even drafted. Seems like they'll both still play. As with anything in pro sports if we win games we'll all forget this ever happened and sweep it under the rug. If this team blows then Monta and Jack will get louder and louder and force their way out of town.

In other news, maybe the W's FO wasn't bullshitting when they said AR got bigger:

Randolph himself said he's 7' now. Looks about right.

You're right, if the team starts winning, none of this will matter. I don't know if they will win with this current roster though. I really am curious what they'll do with Claxton, Law, and Watson. 3 backup pg's and then there's Curry. That's a bigger issue than if Monta and Curry can play together. Obviously, they won't play together right away. I'm sure we'll see some action of them on the court at the same time but how is that any different than last year with Maggette playing 4?

I think Monta just wrote his ticket out of town, if it wasn't already written for him. It's not that what he said was wrong (that he and Curry shouldn't play together), but that he said it, and that bluntly. If Curry or Ellis has to go, it's going to be Ellis. Man, only the Warriors could have such a disastrous media day. In a way I'm glad because it brings a lot of these things out in the light, where they can hopefully be addressed honestly from this point on without trying to hide/spin things.

Yeah, I felt that way too. Of course, Rowell will find a way to spin it. He said, ""I’d rather have people who speak their mind than people who don’t" in response to Sjax's comments.

I'm not sure he's smart enough to be taking passive-aggressive jabs at the front office for drafting Curry, but I guess I can't rule that out either. Maybe I'm drinking too much Kool-Aid to think otherwise. I'm open to that since I've been a fan for too long now.

I thought Monta was just addressing the fact that Curry is a rookie and he's got a lot to learn and obviously, it wouldn't be optimal for them to play together for long stretches. I'm sure we'll see them play together, but I don't think Curry's going to get starter minutes for at least 1/2 the season.

Now if Monta was addressing the future of Curry/Monta, then that's a different story, but no one asked him about the future. They just asked him "Can you see yourself playing with Curry in the backcourt?"

Either way, both Sjax and Monta did not point to their own deficiencies at all. They're PERFECT players, right? Sjax whines and complains to the refs and doesn't get back on D and Monta is the model citizen because he LIED about the moped incident and that's part of the reason they drafted a point guard because we still don't know if he can play that position! Maybe if Monta learned how to play defense things would be different.

Who thinks Curry is going to be the better defensive player than Monta?

It keeps getting worse for the Warriors, but I doubt it's going to get any better. We'll probably end up trading AB, too, for a re-signed Amare, but expect him to pull off this kind of stuff after one season. I'm for dealing Monta and Jax, but we're not going to get equal value for them. There's the rub.

We can still build with AR, Curry, Amare (center), PG trade, Wright. LOL.

Kawakami posted up an interesting blog today: http://blogs.mercurynews.com/kawaka...is-vs-nelson-nelson-vs-rowell/#comment-148670

Don't agree with it all. Particularly the part about where he says "pro sports are not real life, the NBA in particular. The NBA is fantasy, with fantasy rewards, and NBA players work with an entirely separate set of operational values."

Actually, pro sports IS real life. It's a huge part of the economy. This is why anyone associated with pro sports, needs to conduct themselves like...PROFESSIONALS!

Anyway, the more interesting part was about Nellie's grand scheme of pushing Rowell out of presidency. That is not out of the realm of possibility.

Also, I love this line about Rowell showing face to the public: "Radio? Sure, he can do the mid-day show. That’s about it."

Great way to start off the season, not. Jackson and Ellis are idiots. They are sending the wrong message to the rest of the youngsters on the team. I hope Biedrins, Morrow, or Randoloh don't learn from them,

What will it take for Cohan to realize that he's in the wrong business? The fans need to stop going to the games, and buying merchandise.... period. The only way he'll feel it is if it hits his pocketbook. I used to think that was the wrong way to go, because it opens up the relocation talks, but honestly, I'd be for the team moving and the bay area holding the rights for the name, and just starting over right about now. It's getting so frustrating!

Everyone deserves blame outside Biedrins, Morrow, Randolph, Curry, and Wright. Everyone else is part of the problem....Why is that? Because the agents, the coach, and the players have NO respect for the front office. What's the vision for this team? Can anyone answer that question?

You're right. Watching the games and rooting for the players is one thing, but paying to go to the games, buying merchandise, anything that puts cash in the pocket of Chris Cohan is detrimental to the team, yet the Warrior fan base is built on people with money and nothing better to do, I suppose (I wonder, people always say Warrior fans are the most loyal and knowledgeable, but I'm starting to think, maybe we're all just a bunch of suckers).

As long as Cohan is owner of the Warriors, they will never be a successful franchise. One playoff run in 15 years!?!?!?! Half the league makes to the playoffs, that’s a 50/50 chance of making it to the playoffs yet the Warriors do it once it 15 years. That’s less than 7%!

Sjax played Rowell so bad, it’s pathetic. Sorry, Sjax is ruthless. Do I blame him? No. Does Rowell deserve this? Yes! Still, how does an employee go into work and face his employer after openly saying “I screwed you over for millions of dollars?”

Monta is stupid. He doesn’t know how to speak in public, doesn’t know how to elaborate on complex issues. He doesn’t own up to his mistakes. He lies. Yeah, I’ll root for him when he plays well because at the end of the day that’s all that matters, but do we really need these kind of characters on the team?

Unfortunately, it’s all the front office’s fault and Warrior fans have to endure the vicious cycle of drafting young, promising players, giving them money, watching them grow, and they end up disgruntled and leave OR they just give them away for no apparent reason (J-Rich).

I swear, each of us has had the same rant each year at least one time. LOL

Lol I'm with your boycott guys! Then again....if they put out a winning team it'll be hard not to go. Don't you guys just hate how you can't stop following this miserable team, then when they finally do well (see: We Believe) all these "fans" who never gave a shit before are the ones going to the playoff games?

Anyway I got a place down in Santa Cruz a few weeks ago and have no cable so I'll be streaming illegally online whenever possible. Take that Cohan!

Maybe we can all pitch in by sending mails to the warriors organization, the sports radio talk shows, the newspapers telling them how we feel. We're mad as hell and we're not going to take it anymore!

The sound file Peter Finch from the movie Network.
    http://www.dailywav.com/0500/madashell.wav

Basically, if they don't do something to remove management and get some competent owners and personnel in there and start winning, we fans will no longer care anymore because we've had it with these clowns.

And here's another argument. Why should we put money in the pockets of nba players?
Before the redeem team, international basketball has shown us what kind of players we've had/still have in our league now... guys like Iverson, Marbury, the whole lot that don't think team, they think I and me in team. Bunch of spoiled punks I say. I respect the other athletes more than most nba players... Even the slow euro players or those college teams, at least they play together as a team. Basketball just ain't what it used to be, back when we had Mullin, Stockton, Malone, Bird, Jordan, Magic Johnson, Charles Barkley, Reggie Miller, Vlade Divac. You can bet most of these nba guys in the past were 4 year college players. The quality of the play was better too. Now it's guys who can't wait to get that 1st year of college out of the way so they can get that green.

Instead we get raw or immature or just totally retarded people coming into the league. It just sucks to watch these guys.

Not to change the subject, but speaking of Euro players, I wish I got to see Arvydas Sabonis in his prime.

I am not sure that the player and VP of whatever-Rowell-does follows the employee/employer. I think it is more like a product/employee or manager relationship. The ownership is like the board of directors who hire and invest in general managers and other managers to put together a product - in this case the team, the Golden State Warriors players and coaches together. Rowell's contract for Jackson was perhaps the board of directors stepping beyond its boundaries into the management side and creating big losses for the product and the rest of the organization. Maybe this would be like one of the board of director's kids who was handed a job with a salary that he did not deserve telling the media, I did not deserve this and I lost the organization this much money, and this organization is crap. In any case, I don't think the employee/employer relationship works here.

I did not see or hear the comments these people were making. But were they trying to attack the front office because of the way they've treated Mullin and Baron in the past?

And yes, I suppose college helps people develop. Neither Jackson nor Ellis went to college. Ellis I suppose could stand to take a communications class or something at some college.
