I was willing to give the guy a chance when he was first hired, but was dubious about him. After watching the team have some near championships and some weak teams, I'm not so sure he's a complete coach.

It seems that our defense and special teams have been the biggest part of winning games for us, while the offense has been a back burner thing. We've had a couple of guys with real promise on offense that seem to have floundered under Lovie's guidance after their first season. Grossman and Forte are two that I had higher hopes for.

I really like Jay Cutler, I think he's the best Bears QB since McMahon. Yet we basically traded Orton for him and Orton thrives in Denver's system and Cutler is having little success here. Granted we don't have a lot of guys for him to really throw to, but sometimes a good offensive system will turn nobodies into somebodies.

Well, there are known knowns, known unknowns and unknown unknowns. Lovie is a good coach, and I don't know if the next coach would be as good as him. How many coach's did you have between Lovie and Ditka? The Defense is also getting a little long in the tooth. And Urlacher only played in the first game..Right?

Another problem with the Cutler trade, is that you don't have a number one pick to get a weapon on offense like a Golden Tate, or Dez Bryant

I can't believe you guys actually like Cutler. Dude has no heart whatsoever and bitches like a nagging wife.

Bears gave up 2 number 1s, a number 3 and a decent QB in Orton for Cutler, who while possessing physical gifts looks to be a reckless gunslinger at this point.

We had this in Grossman. Granted, Cutler's physical tools are superior. The results are not very good though to this point.

Still though, on a team with no line, no WRs and an aging defense, the Bears really need those draft picks to get young / fast again. If Angelo can't convert those high draft picks into studs, he's the one that has to go, IMO.

Cutler has won nothing in this league and has accomplished little. The idea of him being some type of finished product was clearly incorrect.

I have a hard time faulting Lovie when he loses two of his three difference makers on defense in Urlacher and Tommy Harris, who hasn't brought anything near the game they need from him to be legitimate contenders. And until the o-line plays better, it's hard to judge anybody besides the lineman on offense. I was at the game on Thursday and it seemed to me like Cutler was checking where the rush was going to get through as much as reading his progression. Nobody is good when they are constantly throwing off of their back foot. Fix the o-line and Forte is better and even the receivers will look good.

    1. They pay an arm and a leg for a QB and give him a bunch of shitty receivers to throw to, an offensive line that can't protect him or create hole for the running back, and an iffy RB at that. Then anoint him the savior and expect him to single handedly win games, and you've got a recipe for lots of mistakes, "trying too hard", and ultimately, failure.

    2. Can we pretty well agree that Ron Rivera was not the anchor holding this bunch back?

Well, he looked decent last year, but when push comes to shove he averaged 3.9ypc. That's not great or anything. This year he certainly looks iffy.

I think it boils down to last year their OLine was pretty good and this year it sorta sucks. That means Forte is good enough to be ok if he's got a good line blocking for him, but we shouldn't overrate that. There are lots of backs in the league that could generate 1000 yard years behind a good line, but who are, in the grand scheme of things, pretty average.
