That's somewhat like saying Shaq couldn't match Vlade's range and versatility. In the end, who cares...

Lopez reminds me a lot of a young Kevin Duckworth.

Vince Carter recently said Brook is a PF because he likes to shoot that mid-range jumpshot.

Is he watching the same player everyone else is watching? Brook is the epitome of a true center.

Brook scored 32 pts. on 25 fga last night. Greg had 18 on 11 fga. If Greg was to get as many touches as Brook does he would be putting up better numbers. We have so many options on offense that we don't NEED Greg to put up that many shots. NJ on the other hand is absolutely terrible and Brook is their first option on offense as of right now. That is why they haven't won a game.

What are you looking at? The guy I was responding to was talking about consistency, and Brook has been undoubtedly more consistent than Oden on the season.

I don't know what you're trying to prove. Read the post I was responding to.

I guess it depends how you define consistency... Better overall numbers? Yes. But Lopez has had some huge disparity between his good and bad games.

Not just that, but being able to stay on the court as well. And he's only had two bad games with a "huge disparity".

Look at his FGM and FGA ... he's way more up and down than his scoring totals indicate.

    Hello darkness, my old friend
I don't think Yao is a good comparison for Lopez. Yao has such a massive base, he's the toughest guy to move off the block in the past decade or two outside of Shaq. I don't think Lopez will ever be as difficult to handle in the low post as Yao, and Yao is at least as skilled as Lopez. In addition, Yao is a true defensive cornerstone. By that I mean, he's not just a good defender, but the type of guy who anchors a strong defensive team, much like Duncan does. Lopez isn't a bad defender, but he's not that level of defender.

I'm not sure who I'd compare Lopez to. He's a good player with the potential to be a consistent borderline All-Star. That's very valuable. I don't think he'll ever be on the level of Howard or Yao (or Oden, whom I think will be at least at that level once he's playing 30+ minutes per game).

Seems pretty good to me. He also draws a decent amount of fouls.

During the draft he was being compared to Brad Daugherty.

I can't believe that I'm on the verge of defending Brook Lopez. Brook doesn't need anyone to defend him or make excuses for him. He is totally awesome. You're all looking for any little thing that's wrong with his game in order to somehow prove that oden is better, as if that will somehow prove how terrific Blazer fans are. Brook's success takes nothing away from Oden's ability.

Brook plays 40 minutes a game because the Nets blow. He is double teamed every time he gets the ball, and is constantly hacked--again, because the Nets blow and the opposition knows he will get the ball as much as possible. He doesn't get any assists because every single three-point shooter on the Nets roster right now is injured (well, with the exception of Bobby Simmons, who is just horrible). He is the only starter not to be hurt, and the Nets' original starting lineup, even WITH Brook, is one of the five weakest offensive units in the league. He's forced to play soft defensively because he is the only center on the roster--there are only three healthy bigs, including him. Yet, despite this, he is leading the league in blocks--more than Howard, even. He takes too many mid-range jumpers, in part because the other two bigs--Josh Boone and Sean Williams--have absolutely no range whatsoever and he's been asked to spread the floor. He is also twenty-one years old--a year younger than Oden, I believe.

Yet he has already had two games this year with 25+ points, 15+ rebounds, and 5+ blocks.

Seriously, what is there not to like here?

And why all the consternation? Surely the Nets are allowed to have ONE above-average player on the team.

I don't think they should be allowed that, not at all.

However, I agree Lopez is a hell of a player.

I lost a lot of respect for him when I first heard him speak. I thought he and his brother were joking.

However, considering his experience, he's been playing pretty damn good basketball. I'll be around for a while, that's for sure.

Without being overdramatic, I didn't really lose "a lot of respect" for him, but if you listen to him, he kind of sounds like a transvestite valley girl on steroids.

And as a friend said, did their parents realize those are girls' names? Sort of a weird combo.

I'm not sure what you're up in arms about. I haven't seen anyone say he's anything less than above average, and some have even compared him to Yao Ming and Tim Duncan.

As for me, I think he's a very valuable player, but I don't know what you mean by "totally awesome." I think he's a borderline All-Star-caliber player, but not close to a superstar.

    They're both 21 actually.
