Just an update on Claver, so far, this year. In 26MPG in the ACB he gives Valencia 9.3 PPG, 5 RPG and 1.5APG. in 28MPG in the EuroCup he gives them 11.5 PPG with 50% on 2 pt shots and 40% on 3-P shots, he is grabbing 6 RPG and 2.5 APG. These numbers are better than Rudy's numbers at the Eurocup at the same age, but not as good Rudy's best year at the Eurocup (the year before he came here).
I hope so too. But, let's face it - the draft is, to some extent, a crap shoot, especially in the 20s and lower. This is not exact science. I liked Casspi before the draft and I think he is better than what we thought he would be in the NBA - but to proclaim that KP eff'ed it up at this point, is just not the best judgment. That was a reasonable pick, given the situation and what was known at the time, and it could still pan out very well. Sometimes you have to shoot for the stars, and given that the Rudy/Batum picks proved to be very good ones, I think it is reasonable to give KP the benefit of doubt at this point about Claver.
I would honestly rather have Detroit's 6'10" Jonas Jerebko over Casspi. He's Ruben Patterson with a brain. I have high hopes for Claver. He's 6'11" and can shoot. A pure SF at his size. Like Gallinari but no so one-dimensional.
I liked Casspi before the draft, but my "qualm" with KP and the Casspi/Claver situation was that everyone and their brother knew that Petrie wanted Casspi (even "clueless" fans like me). If nothing else, why wouldn't you try to squeeze SAC by taking Casspi and seeing what they offer? I know it's a small point, and almost worthless to talk about, but it's moves like this that KP made in 2006 (as an Asst.) and 2007 that made him look like a genius.
I remember speculation at the time that involved the trade we had with them, sending Sergio to them to cut his salary, and swapping spots in the second that that swap came with passing on Casspi. Might have just been someone's guess then, I dunno.
Very true. I wonder though if Petrie would have told us to get bent with our Sergio trade if we tried to pull that on him. Maybe it meant more to KP to get rid of Sergio than it did to turn the screw on Geoff a little tighter in the 1st round.
I doubt OKC is going to lure some of the elite FAs out there away from larger markets. Bosh and Amare are either going to stand pat or go to NY/NJ/Miami. i can maybe see Boozer going there, but he doesn't exactly scare me as a Blazer fan.

My only beef with KP is that he seems to have a love affair with finesse jump shooters and scorers ... This is not a very tough team (outside of a couple of guys) and is not a very defensively minded team (aside from a couple of guys). People complain about LaMarcus being soft (and he kind of is) but most of the roster is this way -- no edge, no balls, nobody that other teams are afraid to fuck with. I'm not saying Casspi is the be all end all and I'm not really lamenting missing out on him, but I think the Claver over Casspi pick is indicative of KP's preference for a certain type of player.
well we had one in pryz, and i doubt anyone wants a piece of bayless or miller, or juwan for that matter, and roy will fuck you up... but i do agree that lma is a pussy assed bitch.
It's just that even Przy isn't all that "tough" you can see it in Joel's face when he's jawing with somebody (his eyes get really wide and his body language gets really defensive instead of aggressive ... it's hard to describe, but I know what a "likes to fight" guy's body language looks like; a lot of it has to do with the direction your torso leans when you are threatened. For instance when Joel and Chandler got into it last year, Przy leaned backward and Tyson leaned forward -- Joel didn't really want to fight, even though he put his hands up and Tyson definitely did) Regardless, the saddest thing is that the toughest guys on our team are either under 6'6" or they are super old. The whole frontcourt (aside from maybe Juwan or Pendergraph) are really not enforcer types.
