So you are trying to do law school too? I start applying this fall. From what I hear it varies. If you haven't heard yet, I wouldn't be too concerned - I know plenty of people who haven't heard from their schools yet. I know someone who applied to over 30 schools and only heard from two of them. I suspect that you should be hearing soon though. Curious, what schools did you apply to?
Yale, Stanford (my top 2 choices), Vanderbilt? Columbia, University of Chicago (hometown + uncle is a professor there), UC Berkley, NYU, and my fallbacks are Boston College and Emory. M GPA is a 3.94 but my LSATs are on the low side at 178. Might take it again if I don't get into my top 5 schools. What about you J? Might start seeing you around if I get into Columbia
It's tricky to predict Y/H/S but you definitely have a legit shot at them. Good luck! My GPA is sorta low at 3.7 but I'll probably apply still to the top 3. The LSAT is what's really going to make or break me. I would love to go to Columbia though. I would save a ton of money by literally being walking distance from school. Question - how did you study for the LSAT? I'm sort of in a slump right now. Those games are killing me!
I studied with others who look to go to law school. There were 5 of us and we'd prep each other as well as buying books. Seriously though, 3.7 could STILL get you in Yale or Columbia, but it also means less wiggle room on the LSAT. If you wanna go to Columbia, you'll need a 176 or higher on those LSATs with your 3.7 GPA (unless your GPA is at around 3.78, then you may only need 174 or so).
by the way, where are you applying? and honestly, go to the BEST law school you get into, don't worry about the distance, cause in the end it'll all be worth it, bro. Either way, Columbia is a top 10 law school.
The schools I'm most interested in are: Columbia NYU Cornell Georgetown UPenn and of course the big three: HYS. But those look like major reaches. But we'll see. What kind of law do you want to practice?
Corporate law. I'm already majoring in finance and international relations, so I think corporate law will be best. The $$$ is also there. whatre you planning to practice?
I'm unsure. I was once into prosecution and defense, but they are severely underpaid from what I hear. I interned at Manhattan's DA's office and heard a lot of ranting about the pay being terrible. I'm also pretty interested in corporate law, but I hear the hours are ridiculous, and anything under 80 hours is lucky. I want somewhat of a family life too. That's my main concern. Is that also a concern of yours?
Not really. Me and my GF are pretty serious and she's told me herself she's willing toi move to wherever i get a job once i graduate from law school. 80 hours does sound pretty ridiculous though. I'm sure of that can be done outside of the office. But, corporate law is where the money is at. At this point i'm not really thinking that far ahead lol. I just want to get in, do well, and find a job. Once i'm lucky enough to do all that, i'll work on the rest.
