Yes... Masoli being out may be a big deal... but maybe not. He was like the 4th string QB not long ago. I still have high hopes for the Ducks next year.
Bellotti did color commentary for some game last year didn't he? Can't remember who it was... but he did good. I was quite suprised how natural he seemed. Best of luck to him.
It'll be interesting to see how this impacts the head BB coach search. Bellotti said that UO has hired a search committee to help fill the coaching position, but are they going to fill that spot before getting a new AD? Or, is this going to delay their coaching search, preventing them from getting any of the hot names before they're hired elsewhere?
Possible replacement--Current Senior Associate AD (since 2002) Renee Mack Baumgartner, a Portland native who coached Oregon women's golf from '87-'93, then '96-2000. And, today is her 45th birthday. Maybe his resignation is Bellotti's gift to her.
I had a feeling he wasn't going to last when I saw his comments at halftime of the BSU game... saying that the team needed to run the ball more. Was he correct? Probably. But it was a thing a coach (or a commentator) would say on national television... not a GM. Good luck to him and thanks for helping this semi-fan enjoy the Ducks more than before. Hopefully Chip can make it worth the changes... Ed O.
I agree with this. I don't think Bellotti was ever ready to leave coaching in the first place. He sort of got kicked upstairs with the arrival of Chip Kelly.
While continuing her education as well (she graduated from USC in '87, and got her Masters in '89, and then a PhD in '96, for good measure). Smart cookie.
Re: OT: Breaking news Nevermind, didn't realize there was already a thread about this in the OT forum.
I heard that Bellotti is leaving because of a conflict with others in Eugene about not wanting to pay the new basketball coach more than Chip Kelly. Some around there want to make a really splashy hire and are willing to spend as much as it takes to get it done. Just rumor.
