We noted on Monday that a good interview with the Cavs for Brian Shaw could net him a job offer. And it appears that has indeed happened. From Sam Amick of FanHouse: "A source told FanHouse the Lakers assistant is finalizing a deal to join the Cavaliers just one day before James' much-anticipated free agency begins." With a coach near in place by the start of free agency on Thursday, this gives the Cavs a little more stability heading into their attempt to keep LeBron James in Cleveland. Also, this would put Shaw out of the running for the Lakers job, should Phil Jackson decide to retire. Source: FanHouse
Re: Cavs Have Hired Brian Shaw Well, if Phil retires, I imagine we'll be bringing in Byron Scott now.
Re: Cavs Have Hired Brian Shaw One can take Shaw's signing with Cleveland as a sign that Phil will likely return.
Re: Cavs Have Hired Brian Shaw I think so too, but if the worst case scenario plays out who should coach us? No Shaw, No PJax and No Scott
Re: Cavs Have Hired Brian Shaw If not Phil, it'll be Scott. I'm not too happy about this, but whatever.
Re: Cavs Have Hired Brian Shaw I guess Jerry didn't feel comfortable with a rookie head coach taking over a championship team. I can't say I really blame him. If Jerry was going for the penny pinching route he would've just went with B-Shaw, who would likely be the cheapest hire. I'm guessing it's either Phil returns or we're going with Byron Scott.
Re: Cavs Have Hired Brian Shaw So... if we get byron scott (i think he'll be the best option for us) do you think he'll fit in nicely? in watching nba tv, real training camp, i noticed that he puts a lot of emphasis on conditioning... do you think that would work well for a sensitive team (to injuries i mean) like the lakers? we're not exactly young anymore, and our bigs aren't too athletic and durable lol
Re: Cavs Have Hired Brian Shaw Possibly, but Scott runs the Princeton offense and a lot of those plays overlap with the Triangle offense.
Re: Cavs Have Hired Brian Shaw Yeah the same. It might be tough for Scott to adjust to our PG situation though. He's going from coaching Kidd & Paul to Fisher & Vujacic. LOL.
Re: Cavs Have Hired Brian Shaw You can't really find a replacement for Phil. Things will take at least one season to adjust.
Cavs hired Byron Scott B-Shaw is staying with us This is good news. If Phil does leave, handing the reigns over to an inexperienced coach is definitely a risk. But changing up the entire offense of a team that won back to back titles is a huge risk in itself too. I really hope Shaw takes over for Phil if we can't find a better replacement. I liked him as a player and I want to see what he can do as coach.
