Okay small problem. I was just trying to watch a youtube video and the picture is all blurry with random coloring. What's the deal?

What do you think of the mac air?

I really wanted one but went with the asus for half the price. I love my asus for what it is . . . a high resolution screen, nice keyboard, 11 hour battery life and about three pounds. Justwhat I was looking for . . . well the mac air is what I was looking for but damn are they pricey. Give it a year and they will be much more affordable . . . I hope.

The mac air has noticable lag IMO. Its decent for some applications but anything media-intensive is tedious on it.

You can't expand the memory, which really blows and no CD/DVD player is kind of a bummer. I do like the form factor, but it is way overpriced IMO and not worth it. Its not noticiably heavier than a macbook macbook pro. Unless you are a FREQUENT traveller doing carry-on only and that's your computer, I really can't recommend it.

I might get one from work though. we'll see.

My Acer Aspire is probably a little out of your target range, but I bought it right before Vegas Summer League the year Bayless kicked ass and Batum didn't. The customer service was excellent. I cracked the screen and turned it over to some local knucklehead to fix, and when I got it back, I couldn't turn it on. I was convinced I had violated the warranty by having an uncertified (nice of him to tell me that AFTER he broke the damned thing) person working on it, but I sent it in anyway, expecting to be billed for some costly repairs. Not only did they not charge me for anything (including return freight), they installed a brand-new factory-certified screen and they fixed the loose cover on the DVD drawer (I was drunk and watching Monty Python DVDs and lost my balance while changing discs, lol) that I hadn't even mentioned to them. Plus, I got the thing back in two weeks instead of the usual 4 to 6 weeks.

I've been thinking about getting this laptop. I want something capable of playing new games for around 2 years, something most of the builds linked in here probably won't be able to do. Any thoughts, especially from someone who's owned an Acer? BlazerWookee, how hot does your Aspire usually get when reasonably stressed? Also, did they load on a bunch of bloatware?
