Just some people who need to be beaten about the head and shoulders with an "Olive" branch.

Again. Apologies. I was told this was the place to be to avoid this kind of crap. Old habits die hard. Will try to avoid the "master baiters" taking my threads off the rails.

I was thinking the same thing, but didn't want to say it, so I'm glad you did.

    Its a shame...

43 posts in two years for you in here Spam. Half in this thread. Why not contribute something basketball related that might get a few thousand views and a couple hundred responses maybe. Think you can do it? Or do you call yourself Spam for a reason? I did it on my second post. Not too hard. Let's see you add some basketball value.

Not going to get in another non-basketball exchange with you about me leaving OLive (false...can you find me a google cache of me "informing" the forum of leaving?) or how you leaving that place would be met with nobody noticing. Try contributing basketball content. Something interesting to S2... Good luck in your quest.

I'm finding this thread a little hard to follow (aside from the massive o-live segue) how did any of you guys make any hard observations about an individual player when it was clear that France was completely overwhelmed and over matched? All I could pull out of that mess was Nic was trying play off the ball and deferred to De Colo and Diaw and did his best to keep his head above water while the boat sank around him. That's a bad French team with with no depth and fairly poor point guard play . . .

Just have to get the last word, doncha? Your thin act won't fool anybody over here, just like it didn't at OLive...

Same. They're without their two top point guards - did anyone really expect them to play well against a team with a pretty stud perimeter defender like Rondo? They had consist problems getting the ball up the floor due to the press.

    So true...

I just watched the game in hopes Nic would play as good as possible, nothing more and nothing less.

This definitely was probably the worst opponent and environment for Nic to showcase his entire skill set. The whole premise of the (basketball) thread was to watch Batum to see if he could show some things he's not given an opportunity to do in Portland. (Have plays run for him more than once a week, take and undersized defender to the block...anything that doesn't involve standing in the corner and waiting).

The same thing goes for Rudy. He looked (literally) like a world beater just before joining this team, had a great start but was ultimately relegated to being a player waiting on the wing or corner for jump shots. Haven't been in here long enough to get thoughts on Rudy but OLive for the most part thinks he "sucks" now... I know it's hard to go where from Rudy was...and then become what Nate wanted him to be (stand outside shooting role player) and be "aces" every time he steps on the floor.

Same for LMA. Every passing year sees him get farther and farther from the block shooting jumpers. I can't tell you how many times last year I thought "quit friggin jump shooting all game" for the entire roster not named Roy.

There is so much more dynamic talent on this roster than is being utilized on the floor. Was hoping Batum would be exhibit A Sunday morning. Despite a bad place to do so, I found some things he could be doing in PDX that he's not. Other's didn't. Depends on what you're looking for I guess.

There were a few things that could be observed...

The main thing for me was trying to get an idea of his ball handling abilities. There were many times when he received the balled foul-line-extened. A few times he made some half-hearted attempts to drive but it was pretty clear to me that the ball handling wasn't strong enough (yet?) to take a good defender off the dribble... especially left handed. This was enough to show that he has a LONG way to go before we start experimenting with him as a point-forward.

I see him being used in the low block a bit more when the likes of Steve Nash or Stephen Curry is guarding him. Teaching one dribble moves to attack the basket off swing passes to the weakside (not necessarily having to break down his man from the top of the key a la Roy).

It's not simply having to develop Point Forward skills before we can take advantage of his agility and length.
