Nice. Meanwhile, he shot the ball 15 times, got to the line for 10 attempts, and managed to dish out 5 assists. Sounds a lot like what Roy used to do when he was getting blasted for "dominating" the ball. I hope Matthews continues to play like this, and I hope Roy remembers that he needs the ball. Hopefully Camby reminds him of this again, like he had to last year when the internet coaches were blasting Roy for being Roy.
If I disagree with your opinion, it means that you don't know anything about basketball. I just learned that, and I'm adding it to my list.
I guess I've got to adjust my tactics around here. It's not just about basketball, it's about insulting the guy you disagree with. Thanks for the reminder.
Give me a break. If the Blazers went 0-5 in the presaseason, this board would be in an uproar. We'd be talking about who was dogging it, who deserved more minutes, who should be on the bench, etc., etc.--and you know it. I think it's interesting that you would rather give a pat answer, just to disagree with me, than a thoughtful and honest response.
And if lots of people are saying something, it must be true. Obviously. You're on a roll. Side note--using "we" when you're only speaking for yourself sounds silly. It wasn't pat. The fact that some/many people would overreact to a losing pre-season in no way invalidates what I said. Even now, there's someone overreacting to Roy having a couple of poor pre-season games, even though that has nothing to do with the team's regular season/post-season fortunes. You get people overreacting to just about anything.
Being "disgusted" by your teams best player, because he didn't live up to your expectations for his first 2 preseason games falls under the category of not understanding the sport. Its not the first example of Shooter having no understanding of the sport, this is from years of reading his posts.
82 games did a little workup on the preseason a few years back. There's a slight correlation between pre-season record and regular season record, but a MUCH greater correlation between last season's record and this season's record. http://www.82games.com/preseason.htm Unfortunately, they didn't delve into the correlation between losing a meaningless game and people overreacting and starting a pointless bitching session the next day. I'm sure the correlation was pretty high for that.
I notice tendencies. Typically though, I just read the post and assess it, regardless of who authored. It's why I can read jackholish posts of yours and just shake my head, but read another in a few minutes and totally agree.
How's Kobe doing again? I think he's like averaging 7.5 / 2.5 / 2.5 on .111 shooting. Are you saying Kobe is going to carry his pre-season numbers in the regular season and put up numbers like that this year? If not then don't say Roy is as that would be hypocritical. Next.
I'll go check Vegas odds and see if they are throwing in the towel on the Lakers since they are dogging it and haven't won a game this pre-season AND Kobe has played worse than Roy. Ummm. Nope, for some reason Vegas still seems to think they'll pull out of it.
I've been a Blazer fan and an NBA fan for over 40 years, and yet I don't "understand" the sport? Bravo, my friend. You indeed have insights that none of us share. Please don't ever leave this forum--I'm sure we couldn't survive without your keen analysis of what's "really" going on during an NBA season.
To further add to point, one with 40 years of experience watching the NBA would realize that a multiple All-Star struggling in his first two preseason games isn't anything to worry about. Not a disgrace at all. That you haven't picked up on this in your 40 years of experience tells me all I need to know about your knowledge (or lack thereof) of the game.
Actually, watching for 40 years could be the reason in and of itself. In all fairness I've follwed basketball for many years and I think it's only been within the last decade or so that all-stars didn't play hard in the pre-season. Even in the days of Magic and Bird, those guys were going out and putting on a show for pre-season. It's today's modern athletes that really only play hard in pre-season if they get themselves up for the occasion (sort of like LeBron taking Durant to school tonight).
