During Wednesday night’s Open Practice, the Warriors’ starting unit excelled at sharing the ball. In Friday night’s preseason opener against the Clippers at Oracle Arena, they showed the tendency again to make the extra pass, and the result was a 127-87 victory.

With the starters on the floor for nearly the entire first quarter, the team tallied 11 assists on 14 field goals. All seven players who saw playing time in the opening period tallied at least one assist and by halftime 10 different Warriors had recorded an assist. Golden State finished with 28 assists in the game and seven players recorded at least two dimes, led by six from Stephen Curry.

With the assists distributed throughout the roster, so too was the scoring. Monta Ellis led the Warriors with 22 points on 8-for-11 shooting, including a 4-for-4 performance from three-point range. Reggie Williams scored 20 points, and Curry (18), Dorell Wright (16), David Lee (15), Vladimir Radmanovic (10) were all in double-figures for the Warriors, who shot 55.7 percent from the field and an eye-opening 14-for-21 (66.7 percent) from three-point range.

The Warriors' starters showed little rust for a preseason opener, and the reserves weren’t far behind. In fact, the loudest ovation of the night came for back-up guard and Bay Area native Jeremy Lin. The rookie out of Harvard checked into the game with 10:49 remaining in the fourth quarter and filled up the stat sheet with seven points, three rebounds and two assists and a steal in his NBA debut. Nearly every move Lin made was received with loud cheers from the fans, and the Palo Alto product didn’t disappoint.

The one-sided Warriors win gave fans their first look at several first-year Warriors, but Lou Amundson (lower back stiffness), Rodney Carney (right hip contusion) and rookie Ekpe Udoh (left wrist surgery) all sat out the game due to injury.

After practice on Saturday, the Warriors will continue their preseason on Sunday against the Sacramento Kings . Scheduled for a 7 p.m. tip-off, the game will not be broadcast on television or radio. Lower level tickets, however, are still available for the Northern California showdown.

He needs to communicate early, rebound the basketball, and get his scoring opportunities when they are there.”

“In the beginning of the game they were shooting about 50% for the game and then coach came in and told us we had to get it down to 42%, then we ended up getting it down to 38%. We all understand if we end up playing defense that our offense will come to us. As long we continue to play defense, have each other’s back and move the ball, its going be a great season for us.”

“He’s ’07 again. He’s rebounding, making shots and what more can you ask for. He’s having fun and playing his game again.

Sounds like the passing, Biedrins, and defense are shining well so far. This is exciting stuff. I know it is only the first preseason game and it is against the Clippers. But some things look very promising. Ellis and Biedrins seem rejuvenated, and the extra passing added with Curry and Lee can make this a pretty interesting squad.

Game two looks like another strong defensive performance for the warriors. Or the kings cannot shoot. The warriors opponent shot just 34%. Are these the same warriors of yesteryear or just preseason?

Sorry dynastywarrior the games haven't been televised. The only judgement I have on Lins performance is through the game recap. He didn't felt much pt in game two. Game 1 looked decent statistically.

Jeff Adrien with 11 points and 15 boards. I've always been a fan of his and I'd love it if he made the roster even though we're pretty deep at PF.

Adrien had a lot of offensive rebounds too. I see a spot on the roster for him, if he can produce like that, especially with Amundson and Udoh injured.

Actually there are not a whole lot of open roster spots. But I see the depth chart being something like this

Preseason results won’t mean anything when the regular season opens on October 27, but the small sample size of the 2010-11 Warriors thus far has to be encouraging for Warriors fans. Two games, two wins and two times did the Warriors hold the opposition to below 40 percent shooting. The Warriors beat the Kings, 95-86, on Sunday night, pleasing the energetic crowd of 10,537 at Oracle Arena.

Just three days into the team’s preseason, the Warriors’ starting unit has gelled as if it has been playing together for multiple seasons. The willingness to share the ball on offense is consistent throughout the roster, but perhaps even more impressive is the help defense. Rotating on defense and closing out on perimeter shooters, the Warriors held Sacramento to 34.1 percent shooting from the floor. Coupled with Friday’s win over the Clippers in which Los Angeles shot 37.8 percent from the field, Golden State’s defense is yielding a 35.8 shooting percentage.

Helping out those defensive numbers is the Warriors’ new-found ability under the glass. Golden State again won the rebounding game, 54-50, and a lot of that can be attributed to the work of David Lee and training camp invite Jeff Adrien. Both players tallied double-doubles – Lee had 13 points and 13 boards and Adrien came through with 11 and 15 – which helped to minimize Sacramento’s opportunities on the offensive end. While Lee and Adrien controlled the glass, guard Stephen Curry also crashed the boards.

During training camp, Curry made public some of his personal goals for the 2010-11 season. Among them were being in the top 10 in the league in assists and averaging five rebounds a game, and the second-year guard achieved the latter in the first quarter alone. If the Warriors can continue to get help from the guards in crashing the boards, then they should be able to improve upon one of their biggest weaknesses from the 2009-10 season.

The Warriors’ strong defensive and rebounding effort allowed them to pick up a win in a game in which they were not at their best offensively. Golden State shot just 41.2 percent from the field and 3-for-20 from three-point range. For the second game in a row, Monta Ellis led the way with 18 points and six assists, and Stephen Curry came through with 15 points, seven rebounds and three assists. Dorell Wright added 13 points and four assists for the Warriors, who out-scored Sacramento in each of the first three quarters.

Now 2-0 in the preseason, the Warriors will again play the Kings on Tuesday, this time in Sacramento, at 7 p.m. That game will not be broadcast on television, but Time Roye will have the call live on KNBR 680.

You give him a plan and he has followed through. But you know he has a good pedigree, he’s had good solid training and he’s a pro as a young player.”

“I felt good out there. Our main thing is to get stops on the defensive end. I am happy when we get stops like that and holding teams to a low shooting percentage. When you hold a team to 34 percent shooting you can’t beat that, you’re going to win a lot of games when you make an opponent shoot that low. I was really more impressed with that. When we play defense and you get long rebounds like that especially playing with these two little guys (Monta Ellis and Stephen Curry) there’s going to be a lot of easy buckets for me.”

“We played good. We started off a little slow but we picked up. You could see what happened when we came out to start the third quarter and we went on that run. We are just playing great basketball. Whenever we move the ball it’s a lot easier, teams can’t guard that kind of basketball when the ball is moving and screens are coming, its too much.”

“There were a couple more rebounds I could have got. Coach definitely knows there was a couple I could have got. I just try to give effort everyday, day in day out. Whatever it is, if it’s the weight room, video room or court I try to give a non stop effort.”

On His Chances Of Making The Team:
“Even being the 15th guy you don’t know how much time you will get in the game but at least in practice you can bring it every day, day in and day out. That’s what I try to do. I might not bring in 15 rebounds every night but I will give effort. You can count on me for that.”

On Coach Smart's Expectations:
“He wants me to crash the boards. He seen me knock down the mid range jumper but wants me to get better at it. I am always the type of guy where I take good notes from coach and I will work on it. So I’ve been just trying to work on my jumpshot with Coach Price.”

I was at the game last night, and wanted to chime in on Jeff Adrien. That guy is a hard worker! My gf and I were both impressed with his ability to rebound and out hussle the opponent. I don't know how they only credited him with 1 block. He had 3 or 4 on one defensive stand alone! The crowd was going crazy!

I was least impressed with Jeremy Lin. I don't know if he was trying too hard after all the hype from the first game, but in 1.5 minutes he had 3 turnovers - two traditional, and one that wasn't credited to him because he dribbled into the defense and got into a jump ball situation. Then he lost the jump ball. He was promptly yanked out of the game.

Cousins looked good, and is going to be a beast once he gets more playing time in the league. Tyreke Evans didn't show up (figuratively). He seemed disinterested, and didn't stand out at all.
