Monta wins in another category. He's slightly cheaper ;-)

Heh, yeah, I don't think either player will win any defensive awards. Monta is just under-sized at the SG and I think that will always be an issue until we get a bigger SG. Tonight, though, he comfortably won the matchup against Stephen Jackson. Those two were toe-to-toe for most of the game, and not only did Monta score 25, he gave Jax problems on the other end (Jax was 7-22, Monta was 11-23).

But I agree with you DK. I mean, on its own, I would prefer to have Monta over Martin. But in general, I too wouldn't mind using his good league value in the right trade to bring back a piece that will push us towards the playoffs. I still believe Curry/Lee is the core to build with. Those two are both playing at 70% right now. When they are healthy, and Beans/Gadz are healthy, the team will look a bit better for sure.

I love Monta, but I think an SG who can compliment Curry is one who does not need to dominate the ball. I want Curry/Lee getting the major touches, and instead I want an SG who can really, really defend the bigger guards, who handles and passes well, and who can do things to score off ball.

    Did I mention Iggy yet?

Yup, good point, which makes me want Iggy more than Gerald Wallace now. We thought that maybe Monta could return to his 2008 form where he played off the ball well, but I think last year "corrupted" him where he now thinks he has to do it all on offense. This year, it seems that the way Curry and Ellis get most of their points is pretty much going one-on-one. There still doesn't seem to be this chemistry where we see them thriving with each other. It's more like they're co-existing.

If we got a less talented offensive player like Iggy, that might force Smart or whoever the coach is to have the players score within the system. I mean, I'm sure this is happening to some extent (like the game against Philly where we had 31 assists), my untrained eyes just don't see the beauty in our offense. Perhaps it's a matter of time and health or perhaps a trade needs to happen.

I know Battier and Monta does not work financially straight up; value-wise maybe even not that but who cares if you're really trying to build a winner. Not going to happen, Houston already has K-Mart, so end of story (BTW, IMHO K-Mart is more efficient than Monta).

Ronnie Brewer? He's not bad. I think I'd rather have OJ Mayo than Brewer.

Ronnie Brewer is only averaging 22mpg in Chicago after being a 30+mpg for a few seasons in Utah (and Toronto) before being injured most of last season in Memphis. I haven't followed his career closely at all but he's touted as being a very good perimeter defender and is a guy who can score somewhat efficiently.

I'd love for Denny to chime in on this.

In any case, he seems relegated to a 6th man role in Chicago. He'd probably be given starter minutes here...perhaps he can be another Dorell Wright type player. He seems like a solid role player who plays defense and doesn't demand the ball...plus he's got the size at (6'7"/220lbs) to play SF too. He'd have been a nice Azubuike replacement.

Reggie Williams isn't producing as we'd like him to...at the same time, he's not getting very many minutes...probably because he can't play a lick of D.

I'd be totally down for getting another swingman not named Rodney Carney.

I think Ellis is the closest thing we have to a superstar and I don't think he's the problem. It's the fact we have no center and we never really had a bench to begin with. Plus our head coach is probably a stop-gap for whoever Lacob wants in next season.
