I've read it put forward by recruiting guru types that a schools recruiting class is mostly influenced by the success they had on the field two years prior... or this class is a reflection of the Rose Bowl year. Next year's class will then be a reflection of the NC year. Way too early to target specific guys, I'm sure Kelly and Co. will be in on a lot of top talent again.

okay I'll name one... Zach Banner

Here's a name for 2013 that Oregon absolutely needs to get. Considering one of his linemen signed with the Ducks yesterday, we should have the inside edge on getting him. I watched him live against Tualatin this year during the regular season. He had a so-so game, but only because their QB hadn't learned how to pass yet. He ran for 163 yards against a good Tualatin defense in the 6A championship. Oregon State has already offered him after his sophomore season. I'm guessing he'll be the first 5-star RB from Oregon in recent memory.

That just seems so counter intuitive. You'd think these guys would be watching the Ducks in the natty and thinking, I want to play there!

the thinking goes, a high profile bowl game helps get the coach's foot in the door with the high profile kid who is inundated with schools after him. After that it's usually about relationships, opportunity, distance from home, academics, etc...

Yeah, I guess I was thinking that most kids already have their minds made up and/or are committed by the time the natty rolls around, so you use the natty as a tool for next years kids.

Teetering enough to pick up the phone, dial the coaches to commit and hang up before the call went through. it was that close to being not only a homerun in recruiting, but a Roy Hobbs homerun.

If Heimuli was leaving on his mission, I'd be really worried we didn't pick up any DT's. Even if we got Simmons or Heyward they would've redshirted anyway. Next year though, DT is a priority.

We did get Jared Ebert. I would think that at 6'5", 285, he will play DT for the next couple years. However, your last sentence still stands correct.

I will just say this.....There is an outside chance Oregon still might clown SUC this year in recruiting.

You are all big boys, figure it out

I know this is the 2011 recruiting thread, but I'm hearing that 2012 Cornerback Terry Richardson is pretty much a lock for Oregon next year. Apparently, his brother is already going to the University of Oregon, his friend and ex-teammated Dior Mathis is still here, and he also posted on DAT's facebook when he signed here and said, "Put in the good word for me."

He isn't really ranked yet, but I've heard that he will at least be a 4 star.

I think Clowney visited UO just to see what all of the hype was about. Of course, sometimes Nike's hype, NFL-quality facilities, and switching to a 3-4 can make an impression on a young man. :)

Kind of like a closing argument in court, the last impression is often the most important.

From his perspective... why not take a visit? From Ducks' fans perspective... it's a long-shot, but... there's still a shot :)

If Clemson nabs Clowney... that would be a sick recruiting class.

anyone that nabs Clowney will have had a sick recruiting class. Dude has the most hype coming out of HS pretty much ever. His Sr. tape reminds me of Ridgemont HS's Charles Jefferson

Hahaha. That was literally the first thing I thought of as well, Stomp. I even had Billy Squire running through my head when I watched the video

Wow.. I wondered if we could ever get a guy like Clowney to even visit... that alone is something of note, but if we were able to get him to SIGN..... wow..... just wow.
