I read this somewhere, but I can't find the link.

    Was a legitimate news source.

Most of the Melo to LA talks actually centered around LO, Caracter, and Artest for Melo and a bad contract (Harrington?)

If you remember, Nugs tried HARD to get Caracter in the draft, but Lakers wouldn't budge.

    Lakers trade to DEN
    SF Lamar Odom
    SF Luke Walton
    PF Derrick Caracter
    SF Ron Artest

    DEN trade to Lakers
    SF Carmelo Anthony
    PF Al Harrington

LOOKS pipe dream-y, but this source (and it was, indeed, a non-LA based newspaper) states that the main talks looked something like this. Matt Barnes would be Melo's main backup, Harrington would be Pau's main backup, and Ratliff Bynum's.

    Thoughts?

I'd love it, but it sounds too good to be true.

This looks like a better deal than the Pau one. At least the Grizz got back Marc Gasol.

This is actually not a bad deal...mhm...if I saw that on the table; if I were Den or LA, I would probably take it.

    True.

You have to ask yourself, who is offering more, NY or LA? Would you prefer LO and Caracter (who we don't know how good he can be) along with getting rid of your worst salary over Chandler and Brewer?

I hate to see the Lakers get rid of Bynum. I really do. This season, aside from Kobe Bryant and LO, I REALLY enjoyed watching Bynum play. The kid is promising, and he is not looking like a bust.

HOWEVER, with this 'win now' approach the Lakers are taking, Bynum is our most tradeable asset. Thing is, our size is what differentiates us from the rest of the league. That is why we should only consider giving up Bynum if it means we get size in return. So Nene is the deal breaker here. If he can be obtained without us giving up one of our core players (not counting Artest as a core player here), then we have something interesting.

    Denver Starting 5:
    PG Chauncey Billups
    SG Aaron Afflalo
    SF Lamar Odom
    PF Kenyon Martin
    C Nene
    BENCH
    Ron Artest
    Luke Walton
    JR Smith
Derrick Caracter (Denver thinks he's going to be a stud)
    Ty Lawson
    All the rest

There bench becomes much deeper, Odom gets to play a bigger role, AND they get the guy they wanted on draft day.

    Time will tell...

Honestly, after hearing all this talk of Dwight to LA next year (which imo, is not a far "reach") i'd much rather hold out for a blue chip player (top 10) like Dwight than a red chip (11-20) one. He's THAT much better than Melo.

That way, we can keep our size :D

I think Dwight would rather be traded than sigh as a FA. No way he can take all the negativity from Orlando.

Dwight is not going to be a fuckin' Laker, lol.

I've read multiple reports saying how high the Nuggets are on Caracter. If they want Odom instead of Drew, do it. I'm all for sending one of our 3 bigs + fillers to take back Melo and a bad contract.

HAHAHA! The Buss family. Freakin’ geniuses. Remember, Buss was in the business of Real Estate. The guy’s a salesman, and a gifted one at that.

You tell the Nugs that you aren’t interested, Knicks stand still, then Denver comes back to LA saying “FINE! We’ll take Artest too and throw in Birdman.” JUST so they don’t become the Cavaliers of 2011-12.

I think the Lakers are going to land Melo. And if they don’t, so what? We have a good team as it is. Trust me. Buss is cooking something up, he’s just trying to maximize his return.

Melo said he may just sign w/ Denver. Why? So the Lakers/Knicks grow a little more urgent. PROBABLY won’t work with us, but it may with NY.

Carmelo Anthony/Kobe/Pau is starting to look like it’s going to be the BEST Big 3 in basketball.

Why not? The Lakers are one of those franchises who ALWAYS have a shot at a star free agent. It's not like Dwight still has 5 years left on his contract. He's a free agent, he's a superstar and he's looking at NY and LA. That's a recipe for a S&T.

Yeah, i'll pass on Melo and give Dwight a shot next year. Cause God knows the Magic aren't winning a championship.

i think im the only one here... i don't want melo to be a laker... i don't know why... especially if were going to give up odom who is finally playing like he should and is a matchup problem for every other team.

id much rather risk waiting for dwight... than give up odom + artest and co.

something like this would be better, lol!

I mean with all of these rumors of Dwight to LA next year, wouldn't you rather wait 1 more year to get him than pick up Melo? Dwight is worth the risk.

Of course, there's a good possiblity he won't come to LA.

Exactly what i meant. It's better to not do anything while waiting for dwight. If we don't snag him then it's all good.

I say get a deal that centers around Bynum for Conley+M. Gasol+Mayo (OF COURSE we are going to have to throw in some pieces).
