Celtics want Murphy!!! They need to re-stock their bigs. And Murph wants to go to the Cs!

But it could be after he's been bought out :sigh:.

Rusty Simmons: Warriors GM Larry Riley just sent the official text: "No deals."

Oh well. Can't blame them for not making a bad deal just for the sake of it, but with all those trade flying around, it's hard to believe nothing was out there.

It was Murphy for Jams deal that could not come together.

    Mark Stein:
Marc Stein: Cavs and Warriors, meanwhile, talked Jamison for Troy Murphy all the way to buzzer but could not come to a deal, presumably regarding picks

Welcome back HiRez! I had not had time to think about it, but it's a great deal for OKC. They got presence in the paint now.

Yup, not to really defend Lacob, but the lockout potential is very key on how teams will operate going forward. In 6 months to a year, we might be talking about how smart Lacob was. Unlikely but you never know.

My thoughts exactly. If nothing really happened and they said there was nothing out there thats one thing but there ended up being a ton of movement. We couldn't get in on even one of those deals?

And yeah Perkins and Nate for Jeff Green and Krstic? Highway robbery by the Thunder, though it makes you wonder what Ainge and the C's know about Perkins that the rest of us don't know. I think part of it had to do with the fact that the Celts knew they couldn't afford to keep Perkins this summer anyway. Is Jeff Green better than I think he is though? Seems like a positionless player who doesn't do anything above average. Presti is so money. Also added Nazr Mohammed who I have always thought got way to much of a bad rap. Solid big man who rebounds well and can finish inside. Thunder are loading up to contend this year and, more importantly, take the Western Conference Throne once the Lakers and Spurs officially fall off.

Grizz got Battier back for Thabeet and a 1st round pick. Pretty interesting move and seems beneficial for both sides. Too bad though because one of our rivals for the 8th seed just got much better. Also Hou trades Aaron Brooks for Goran Dragic. Thats kind of a weird one for both sides unless Hou thinks Dragic can flourish as a starter.

    Anywho, bring on the D-Leaguers.

It could mean that Riley wasn't dialed in or good enough to get a deal done. I'm going with that thought.

I'm hoping that Battier doesn't sign an extension. Still crossing my finger that he's setting screens and playing D for the Dubs next year

If something was wrong with Perkins, then the Thunder would find it. If I was Boston, I'd want for them to rescind the deal. I have no idea what Ainge was thinking of. Jeff Green? He's soft as butter and doesn't rebound. Troy Murphy? He's soft as Charmin in the middle. The Cs didn't have to do anything except pay the lux tax, win a championship and raise ticket prices next year.

LOL. I forgot about Larry Riley. Hellooooo Jeff Adrien. Bottom line. Riley didn't get it done and we're still outside of the playoffs. Getting Jams would've been a big step in heading towards the playoffs (assuming he's healthy).

Yeah, I've been a Riley supporter but its just hard to believe that will all the movement we couldn't get ANYTHING done. Its not his fault that we lost 1st round picks which seemed to be the engine to all of the big deals but damn all we could do was a second round pick? And lets not leave Lacob out of this. Even if LR did a great trade he'd get just as much/more credit. Hes come in and been hands on and he needs praise and blame when things go good/bad.

Yeah, and it's not like Riley was sitting comfortable but then the phones started ringing. I mean, from the sound of it, he's been actively working the phones for weeks now. On KNBR today, he said, "we contacted every team in the league" about a deal.

And, for the record, draft picks are nice.... but expiring contracts are gold these days. Especially heading into the uncertain 2012 agreement...

I mean, GS didn't have any 1st rounders, but they had a few tasty pieces... Between the exp. contracts, and Monta Ellis' super-value contract...

Monta/BWright/Vlad should have been enough to get a package with Granger/Iggy/Kaman/Nene or one of the other players Riley admitted (on KNBR) to going after...

Actually it was his fault. 1) Mullin had been de-balled when that deal was made it was essentially Riley that made it...remember Mullin wanted to re-sign Baron, and when he bailed they were stuck, and 2) he had the opportunity to do something about it later:

Also, Riley signed SJax in that stupid extension. What has he done to be supportive of? Brought in Lee (overpaid) and Amundson (yawn) and drafted Curry. I think my 5 year old could've drafted Curry. Hell, his 2nd option would've been trading Curry and getting Amare, that looks like it may have been an equally good option these days. I guess you could say the D Wright signing was good, but I'd rather have Battier (and apparently he was available if we just had a damn pick). The truth is, Riley may be a nice guy, but he's a crappy GM. All people connected to Cohan should've been let go and brought in people with a fresh set of eyes. People who weren't emotionally invested.

Robert Rowell was the one responsible for the SJax extension. That alone made him the most savvy-less businessman in pro sports lol.

    Why is Rowell still around?

At the beginning of the year, Lacob said on the radio that, basically, you "don't come in and just fire everyone, because who will you put in place? You have to give it time, see what the day to day operations are, evaluate who should stay/go, and you need time to search for new candidates..."

Well, I would agree with Lacob, if he was doing it all by himself. But there are pros who can advise Lacob. And anyone with half a brain would have told Lacob in a heartbeat, "okay Joe, I know you're new to this whole thing, but we have to tell you, you must torch that doofus Rowell."

I read it earlier and I'm starting to agree. Lacob has been very vocal, and he's talked a big game... but so far I have seen zilch as far as walking the talk.

He literally promised there would be moves made... so far, it's been give up Brandan Wright for a 2nd rounder... that's not necessarily going to get us another banner up on those rafters, Joe...

It's still early, but after the sale of the Warriors, I just expected more change... so far, not much has changed... at least GS is playing somewhat better, and buying into Smart's team-defense a bit more. But they are going to need to improve the roster -- at least the bench if anything -- if they ever plan to sniff the playoffs, IMO.

I'm quite certain Mullin made that move. Laurdisen seems to believe so as well in that link. To my recollection he offered Baron an extension (lmao), Rowell/Cohan denied it, which I'm sure pissed him off, but then he was all over the Mags, Turiaf, Marcus Williams pickups that followed. He was in there pimping Mags at the PC after they signed him with a big goofy smile on and preaching the virtues of working out and eating right which he, like Mags, lived by. I believe it was later in that same offseason (actually I want to say it was a few games into that season) that Rowell gave SJax the extension. It has been covered EXTREMELY thoroughly that Rowell did that. I want to say it was even reported that Rowell and SJax did the thing behind Mullin's back and that was the beginning of the end for Mully.

Also if memory serves LR was moved off the bench to take over GMing duties in the middle of the season that year before being officially named GM at the end of the year.

That's a lot of recollection but I'm pretty sure its right and the brief google searches I've done support it. Not going to waste too much time on it lol.

And it seems like you're going out of your way to rip Riley. There is no fucking way we would've landed Lee if we didn't overpay him and that applies to every decent player in the league. If we didn't do that we'd still be running out AR at PF (or Tolliver lol), who seems to be floundering. You can't not give him credit for picking Curry there IMO. He nailed that pick, obvious or not, our best 1st round pick since? Webber? Seems like whoever we draft always sucks relative to someone in the next few picks who many wanted. DW was a great signing. I'd rather have Battier too but thats a completely irrelevant topic. Amundson's been shit so far but he was a good reserve in PHX, this might be Riley's worst move. Udoh's looking fairly good. And he was dumping Jax, Craw, Harrington for the first year or two of his tenure. This trade deadline was a definite fail IMO but to me you've gotta give 50% of the blame or more to Lacob. Hes been running his mouth about making changes. I know hes qualified that by saying they'll wait for the right move. And I'm patient enough to wait. But look at all that activity over the past 3 or 4 days and we couldn't get anything done? Riley's likely doing the leg work but the way Lacob describes it hes right there with him proposing deals, giving a thumbs up or thumbs down, etc.

In any case I'm all for bringing in Kerr at this point. They both seem like decent GMs given their track record but Kerr's got way more connections, hes much younger, he seems to have a relationship with Lacob. IMO Riley did a good job dumping Jax (we all thought he was immovable), Craw, Harrington and we're just starting to let the leftovers from those trades expire. He seems to have done well in the draft and got two solid pieces. He got us Lee who, for all his warts, is the best PF we've had in many years and has a very positive effect on the success of the team. He got us DW. We're saddled with Lou's 2 mil a year salary for another year. Boo hoo. Nice job LR but you're old and connectionless, you had a decent career here but its time to move on.

I blame Riley for not putting a team together. I expected a re-balancing of talent at the very least. And I don't care about Lee. Why did we stockpile expiring contracts if there was no 1st round pick to package with them. The only way Riley earns his job is by picking up either Nene or Gasol this off-season, period. That's setting the bar high, but anything less could've happened under Cohan and his idiots. I don't want to see Dalembert or something equivalent. We heard promises from the ownership and Riley didn't deliver.

I wasn't expecting a push for the playoffs this year, but I was expecting moves to put us in a position to fill a few voids to get us there next year.

He added two starters last offseason and drafted Curry (also a starter) and Udoh (plays more than our starter). Can't see how he would land Nene or Gasol this offseason at all. Both of their respective teams want them back and all we can offer is a deal starting at 6-7 mil. Can't trade our draft pick (again, don't think thats his fault). Like someone said above, perhaps DW would have gotten us Perkins but it seems like they aren't moving him. I just don't see how we could land one of those guys in the offseason unless we give up Udoh and/or DW. I agree they should have filled a few smaller voids because the difference between our 6-7 mil cap room and the MLE isn't much so why not add a small but helpful piece or two and then use the MLE on a youngish player that will retain value (Afflalo? JR Smith? Carl Landry? I'm blanking on any more).

And again, Lacob is the one running his mouth. Riley didn't deliver at the deadline but I don't see how you can completely leave Lacob out of the equation. He gives the thumbs up or thumbs down and given all the activity I would believe that he was at least 50/50 with Riley in refusing to give up DW, Reggie, and whatever else teams may have wanted.

Seems like Riley/Lacob were trying to get a good player for nothing. It just doesn't work that way.

Those starters that he brought in wouldn't start on a winning team. Curry fell in his lap and he stockpiled expiring contracts and did nothing with them.

Would you prefer we kept AR and co? Who else could Riley have landed who would start on winning teams? Bron, Bosh, Amare, Boozer weren't coming here in a million years. What SFs were moved (besides LeBron) who have been better than Dorell? He got Lee with a bust prospect and two role players (one of whom still hasn't played) and Dorell with half the MLE. And hes a GM for the freakin Warriors. I don't see how he could've done much better. Good players don't want to play here. I'd like if he landed Nene or Gasol too but why the hell would they leave better teams and probably more money? Why would those teams move them to us? The expiring contracts were worth nothing.

I agree with almost everything you said except I don't think it was a case of Riley/Lacob trying to get a good player for nothing. One has to have stockpiled picks in order to get a good player. Riley did the opposite the past seasons he's been GM of Golden State. He sold those second round picks and was casual with our first round picks. It was a continuation of the folly of Chris Mullin. We got a playoff team this year except our Achilles' heel is our bench. There's a reason for that and going to the D-League isn't the answer when one is trying to get to the playoffs. This team is good enough for the playoffs this year, but we didn't get the piece or pieces to get it done. Even getting rid of Andris Biedrins' contract would have been a step in the right direction for the future because then we can play Udho more.

Why is it 1 or the other? AR had some trade value before the off-season. He could've been moved for other players. You can't argue that the Lee trade was a homerun. Again, I like Lee, but he's the wrong player to add to a team with a weak defensive backcourt. You can live with him if you have guards that keep their man in front of them. Can you tell me that you like Riley's vision? If so, what is it? And Dorell, it's not a GREAT move. It's a solid one, to bring in a 6th man. Can you see Wright moving to the bench if they brought in a starting 3 now? I can't, which means we either need to trade him or live with him. But now you're arguing that Wright and Lee are showing me that Riley is a good GM, and that's absurd to me. This team needed a new start with new ownership, and as long as Riley's around that's not gonna happen.
