Jimmy King was ESPN spouting the same thing the day the 20-for-20 was released. Maybe Jalen Rose meant it toward how he felt when he was 17 but Jimmy King believes it now. The whole time I'm thinking: Duke beat you so I guess they were right.

    You're kidding, right?

MJ is a competitor paying a compliment to an opponent. JR is a competitor complimenting himself.

MJ's statement is to Grant Hill as JR's statement is to Jalen Rose.

Given that Rose produced that show in the hear and now (how he got to produce such a self-celebratory piece of shit about how great he and his teammates were is some kind of mystery), it's pretty telling that he didn't exactly spend a lot of time or effort walking those statements back, isn't it?

This makes Reinsdorf equal to Rose?

So, I guess the answer is, no, I'm not kidding. The four is arbitrary, yes, but it's a statement about the long term viability of the team, which, given all the caveats he provides, isn't too controversial.

I don't know. Is it an unwritten rule that owners don't say, "I think this team can win a championship or two"? I mean, didn't Steinbrenner essentially demand championships from his team? Now, he forked over the money, so, if Reinsdorf expects this but doesn't fork over the money, then, his anus should be extirpated (well, not really).

But I'm not sure I understand the great offense at what he said.

I made an analogy, not an equality. It's not the end of the world or anything, but no, I don't like people showboating and talking about how they're going to win a bunch of stuff they haven't actually won.

Well, fair enough. I wouldn't do it either. But then again, I'm not the owner.

And I would say that there are a fair number of people who feel like Chicago ownership hasn't had enough "balls" to demand championships/and or pay for them. At least in that sense, I think Reinsdorf is setting the bar high, and that should appeal to us fans who have been looking for our sports teams to stop being so "second-city-ish".

And I was wondering, not too seriously, if maybe he got the idea for saying that *after* hearing it from MJ in private conversation...

And I still don't see the analogy.

I think put your finger on why I wasn't bothered by the comment. I want a disciplined version of James Dolan, Rich DeVos and Marc Cuban as an owner. Perhaps Jerry Bus is the closest in the league. I want a guy whose willing to go into the tax to acquire talent, but is smart enough to know what talent is worth it and when to leave well enough alone. I want a guy who is Krausian to the extent that he believes the Bulls should be a contender because they are the Bulls and anything less is not acceptable. If Reinsdorf's comments show that he isn't content with a cute little team that packs the stadium, but wants to put together a real winner then I'm on board that train.
