You guys probably already saw this article, but I just came across it. I didn't see it on any of the threads, apologies if it's there already. I think Smart dug his own grave with his rotations (regardless of the talent). He is just too damn cautious with guys in foul trouble for a team with this weak of a bench. If anyone deserved to get his minutes limited it was Monta. Monta's efficiency would be so much better if he rested 3-5 minutes more a game. I guess it's possible that Curry and the ownership are on the same page, to save his legs because this is a throw-away season, but with a guy this young, I can't imagine that to be true. Regardless of the back-story, it's an interesting perspective.
He did a very poor job of managing this (healthy) roster. Good riddance (nothing personal). He should be IU's coach.
Just like the article says, he seems like a nice guy, but I sure as hell don't want him as the coach of the Warriors. No way. He's had me pulling my hair out this season with his mind-boggling game management. I wish him all the best at his next job, but yeah, time to go...
His treatment of Curry, the presumed cornerstone of this franchise and realistically the most valuable piece of this franchise, is indefensible. His fallback into no defense small ball is just as horrendous. Nice guy, professional, sure. Appeasing Monta Ellis to detriment of team, not the way to get this team moving up.
Thanks for article CohanHater. I did not see it. Of course, Smart has his reasons and they're legit, starting with the careless turnovers and the below-average defense. What bugged me most was Smart blaming Curry's defense and TOs. How can you sit him down when it wasn't just him? If it was lack of assists, then it would be a different story.
Not a fan of Smart after the first month because of his over-use of Radmo to try and spread the offense out. Now I go off on a tangent because I believe it's more about the roster than the actual coach: Man, I didn't even follow the warriors that much after they had no chance of making the playoffs, so sorry if my observations are stale/invalid. Here's my thing: If the warriors had a chance, they'd be worth watching, but they just don't do anything to make me believe there was a chance after a few games where they couldn't even beat the teams they should have beaten. A turd is a turd. Doesn't matter if it stinks worse or less this year, the ownership has to flush it, let it air out, and start building up a roster that includes good big men playing in the paint. Then we won't be as pathetic as we are with handling interior D, making shots inside and not getting rebounds. David Lee was a good first start, but he's a 4 not a 5. Now I'd like to see them draft somebody that is a sleeper center or perhaps take a chance on Oden or make a play for somebody else's center. Also we need to figure out who should get the ball the most in the backcourt. Having Ellis run the 1/2 reminds me too much of what they tried to do with Cuttino Mobley / Steve Francis backcourt on the Rockets. There's too much domination of the ball in the backcourt. Maybe this is attributed to us not having any real inside presence, but we've got to do better at finding good shots rather than settling for outside shots or just letting Ellis do whatever. Defensively, we've got to get bigger and tougher inside and we've got to get rid of either Monta or Ellis at shooting guard to improve defensively. In other words no more Monta at shooting guard. Put in Curry at point (make him work on his turnovers) and get a real shooting guard who doesn't have to dominate the ball to be effective. If Philly wants to give up on Evan Turner, I'd take him.
