"Among the several players making their first Opening Day roster in the major leagues, the longest shot coming into Cardinals camp was righthander Bryan Augenstein, who had a 6.49 ERA as a starter for Arizona's Reno Class AAA team last year. Augenstein won a job as a middle reliever by posting a 0.77 ERA for 11 2/3 innings in which opponents batted but .125 against him.
