<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>National Basketball Association uniforms sport the team’s city or nickname across the chest. At the right price, though, some team executives would insert corporate logos such as McDonald’s Corp. ’s Golden Arches or Nike Inc. ’s Swoosh instead. The NBA — alone among American sports leagues — bans all advertising on its uniforms, even from Reebok International Ltd., which has a 10-year, $200 million contract to outfit the league. Top European soccer clubs get about $20 million a year for a jersey sponsorship, while teams in other countries get less. And NASCAR drivers are walking billboards, while their cars — from bumper to bumper — are plastered with product logos. Now Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban and New Jersey Nets Chief Executive Brett Yormark are among team executives who say it’s time to stop treating uniforms as commercial-free zones. With the average player’s salary approaching $5 million a year and television and sponsorship money reaching a plateau, the league should consider sponsorships as a new source of revenue, they say. "If it were up to me, they would already be there," Cuban, whose $87 million payroll this season was second only to the New York Knicks, said in an email interview.</div>LINKpersonally i think its a horrible idea
I don't think it would be bad. As a fan, it's not something you like, but as an owner I could see how they would go for it. As long as they keep it small, it'd be ok. The article sounds like they're wanting to keep it small, so that'd be fine with me.
As long as the Ads don't make the jerseys look bad, and are not too big, I don't see the problem, but I don't want to see any stupid companies being advertised either.

The NBA makes billions of dollars we don't need more advertizing shoved down our throats, this isn't f*cking Nascar keep the jerseys clean.
It wouldn't be like NASCAR at all. It's not like there's going to be pink Pepto-Bismol jerseys or anything. It would probably be a few inches on the jersey. I don't see what the big deal is.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>This is a really stupid idea. Leave that advertizing for NASCAR</div>I totally agree, this would ruin the little class that the NBA still has. Can you imagine seeing a Los Angelas Laker jersey or Boston Celtic jersey with a mcdonalds logo on it....c'mon...this is a horendus idea. The NBA has enough problems with behavior, the uniforms are the one thing that have been totally untouched, leave the jerseys alone!
This would be very bad for the NBA's image. Keep the jerseys clean and professional its not like the league is poor or anything, they dont need more money. Some of you guys say that if you keep the ads small it doesnt really matter if they have the ads or not. But as everyone knows when the NBA sees how many companies want to advertise on the jerseys, every single jersey will have a bunch of tiny ads.
In my opinion, this is retarded and pointless. Why is there so much change lately? God... First a new ball, now freakin ads across the jerseys (would make it look uglier too).. what's next?
1) The article said that the NBA has lost money this past year. The NBA is a business. The point of a business is to make money, not lose it. It would look worse if their teams start to fold because of financial problems.2) Everyone is pleading on here like anyone from the NBA is reading. They aren't. Even if they were, they wouldn't care what you have to say.3) The "everyone knows" argument is asinine. No one knows anything, unless you have an article or secret document from the head office. We don't know if they will limit advertisements on the jerseys or tattoo advertisements on the players' faces. The closest comparison to what might happen isn't NASCAR, it's the European basketball leagues.4) I don't believe the NBA is stupid enough to put huge advertisements on their jerseys, which would sacrifice jersey sales. That would be a poor business practice.
