    All in all, it's been a much better off-season for Riley and the OSU program. 2010 saw 7 player arrests and this year, with a few exceptions, it's been much improved.

    I was concerned when Riley allowed Brennan Olander to stay on the team after four arrests - felt it sent the wrong message. I also feel a one game suspension for Castro may not be enough. But, I freely admit, I'm on the outside looking in and I know Riley to be a coach who cares greatly for his players.

    I was prompted to post this with the recent news that Sark just sent a key player packing (with a police escort), and Kelley has done the same with a Heisman hopeful and leading QB.

    Has Riley ever kicked a key player off the team for arrests, violations?

    How do you feel about the fact that Riley wouldn't allow Castro to practice until after the plea agreement was reached while Chip let LMJ practice prior to his sentencing for a very similar offense?

    A couple thoughts here.

    First, can you cite a link, please. I'm unsure of your claim and timelines.

    Second, James pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor harassment charge and received a sentence of 10 days in jail. I have first hand information on this incident and the ex-girlfriend involved would not leave him alone. Masaniai pleaded guilty to coercion and received 18 mo probation, fines and will serve 177 days jail unless all release agreements are met.

    Harassment is a Class A misdemeanor. Coercion is much more serious. According to ORS Statute 163.275, Coercion is defined as:
    (a) Unlawfully cause physical injury to some person;
    (b) Unlawfully cause damage to property;
    Coercion is a Class C Felony, unless pleaded down in a deal to reduce sentence.

    Clearly, you have no clue what you're talking about when you say "very similar offense." One involved personal injury, property crime AND took place in front of a minor.

    So, honestly, I can't answer your question. Because they weren't similar. However, crimes shouldn't be about coaches discretion, they should be about punishment. Both received the same punishment - for VERY different crimes. The best part of the story, James is on the straight and narrow, has stayed out of trouble and has received awards for his academics. Oh, and he's very productive on the field....

    So, I entertained YOUR question, and apparently you ignore mine?? Oregon has sent several players packing and suspended players for entire seasons - including a key LB and a Heisman hopeful. My question stands (because I don't know) has Riley EVER made an example and kicked a player off the team??

    It looks to me like Targus only posts to get a reaction out of Beaver fans. Probably better to just ignore him.

    I agree. When I post in the Ducks forum I only bring information or events of relevance to a large audience. I attempt to generate genuine debate.
