Pretty simple- if you just want to fight, stay in the gym. There are guys there you can fight all day long.

If you want to be a world champion and make millions of dollars there are certain things you have to do, one of the primaries being a professional and making public appearances to promote the events.

Don't know why so many people are apologizing for Nick. Nick fucked his own fans (myself included) out of this one and hasn't even said he's sorry or regretful. Shame.

    Pro Wrasslin' forum ---->

Seriously guys, this is MMA. I would hope that what a fighter can do inside the cage carries more weight than their skill on the mic. If DFW feels the need to make a point, dock him 10% of his purse - but don't call off the fight.

I guess UFC is becoming like every other major sport.....the fans come last.

I don't agree, but to each his own.

So far Nick isn't fired or anything drastic, he just lost his title shot.

A man's word is his bond and Nick didn't behave like a man--especially not like one who had signed a contract.

Dana said at that presser that if Nick had been there and not said a word it wouldn't have mattered, he just had to be present.

Called it, Diaz vs. Penn now on.

Why do I feel like this card just got substantially better? I think these are both better match-ups.

Well, If Diaz can beat BJ then his title shot is probably just delayed half a year or so.

Diaz vs. Penn is a great, great fight as well.

The card is as good as it was before, just a slight variation. Plus it sets up the winner of Penn/Diaz to fight GSP.

I kind of like Diaz having to earn a UFC title shot anyway.

Somewhere Jon Fitch is sitting with a blank expression on his face wishing he knew how to rage or cry.

Re: Nick Diaz no-shows press conference, Condit to fight GSP [Nick posts video respon

Diaz/Penn is just more compelling because they seem to cancel each other out in so many ways. Both are great boxers, both have great grappling pedigrees (tilt to Penn, obv), neither of them have any interest in wrestling or clinching, and they are both nucking futs. With GSP you could see him exploiting Diaz's lack of TDD and winning that way. This match-up has no such clear path for either fighter, really.

BJ's "offer I can't refuse" must be a title shot if he wins. No other way around it. Diaz was the top contender, beating him makes Penn the top contender.

Again, Fitch should be upset (if only he had emotions).

Some clarification on what exactly has been going on from DFW:

    http://sports.yahoo.com/mma/news;_ylt=AjFIkT5iSPqQ4kdgrpCRJ7M9Eo14?slug=ki-iole_diaz_penn_ufc090911

He seems to be sympathetic towards' Diaz anxiety about the media. Interesting that he said he would give Nick the shot again if he won against Penn.

Presumably they wouldn't make Diaz do the extra stuff a second time around. Still Diaz's fault for agreeing to do it the first time and not coming through.

Glad cooler heads prevailed and the fans won in the end.

Any iteration of GSP/Condit/Penn/Diaz is fine by me. Four exciting fighters and no Fitch.

Seems like a slippery slope if Dana lets Diaz slide with the PR duties. Like DFW said, lots of guys hate doing it but do it anyway because its part of the job. If you let Diaz slide then guys like Brock, Cain, etc. who don't like the PR are going to want to skip it too.

Agreed, should be a great fight. I'm looking, but I would be very interested to see who the oddsmakers are taking as the favorite in this fight. The only reason why I lean towards BJ Penn, is because I think he has more power in one punch than Diaz has. Not saying Diaz doesn't have power, but BJ Penn can put just about anyone on their ass with one punch, where Diaz more has to use the punches in bunches cliche.

Re: Nick Diaz no-shows press conference, Condit to fight GSP [Nick posts video respon

I agree about the power but Diaz just boxed with Noons and Daley who are both very powerful and he ended up withstanding the punishment and wearing them out. I think Penn will be in top form and hes tough to beat when hes motivated but you know Diaz will always have the excellent endurance. I really don't even know who to pick. One of those great matchups where I love watching both guys fight and can just enjoy the fight without rooting for one or the other. I just wonder that if BJ falls in love with boxing Nick and refusing to wrestle he'll end up gassing (or at least slowing down while Diaz continues on a torrid pace) and falling into Nick's trap.

Great point on both accounts, he has shown an ability to take some flush punches and keep in a fight, and cardio is an issue with ALL BJ Penn fights. It's such a pick em fight, both guys are so good and so talented. Just as interesting of a fight as possible.

A Nick Diaz ramble in print is almost as good as one on the mic...
