I'm not too sure that this is a huge improvement over Biedrins. Something tells me Jordan takes a huge step backwards this season.

I am also skeptical of DJ but I think hes definitely an upgrade over Biedrins. First off just take into consideration the athleticism-size combo. Hes the same height as Biedrins but hes got a much longer wingspan (7'6) and much better athleticism. And he weighed in at 250 lbs. before he was drafted, he might be heavier now. Hes absolutely more of a presence down low and can hold his own against heavy PF/C. Offensively, he has little skill but did put up an unreal 69% from the field last season and his ability to explode to the rim and finish is probably second only to Dwight Howard, right up there with Amare.

It would be a risky signing but hes a 23 y/o C with impressive athletic ability. Those don't grow on trees. Hes still raw and struggles with foul trouble but I think he would absolutely make a difference for us and with any luck he will improve over the course of his contract and grow into a top 10 type of C.

Sucks for us. If a guy does not have an offensive game now, he's not going to get it later. Name one guy who developed later. Only real guy was Ewing. Guys who developed later only did so because they got bigger and stronger, not because they did not have any moves. Guy shoots 41% from the line now. Clippers PLEASE MATCH!!!

Would you have wanted Chandler? He has just as bad of an offensive player, I would say even worse actually although he does have a respectable FT%. Seems like the front office is looking exclusively at defensive C's, I've read speculation that Marc Jackson wants an athletic C to defend the rim. Jordan isn't as good as Chandler defensively right now but he can grow into it. I don't expect him to ever be much of a scorer but you see the way he can finish around the rim and there are very few guys who are in his class. That doesn't mean hes going to develop an offensive game but it is a weapon that he has that most guys don't.

We're all pining for an impactful, top 10 C. Jordan is still raw but hes undeniably a decent C right now and has all the tools to be a presence in the paint. We can keep trying to bid for and trade for established C's but we're going to keep losing out on them or pay too much for them. We would certainly have to overpay DJ in the form of a big contract right now but if he pans out then we'll look good later and we wouldn't have had to give up any talent. Gotta take a risk to get the reward. I don't see any other attractive C options opening up in the future.

I say go for it...he's definitely an upgrade for us at center. He's young, crazy atheltic, and I don't see any reason to believe that he's not going to improve. Yeah, that's a lot of money, but that's pretty much what we're paying Biedrins right now and Jordan has a wayyyy bigger upside. We took a shot at Chandler, and we didn't get him...oh well, on to the next. If it's for $10m/yr, I'm on board. Dude averages a double double in like 25 minutes, and how many centers in the league would be better than him in transition??? Not many, and that's Warriors basketball. Sure, it would be awesome to have a dominant frontcourt scorer, but those go for wayyy more than 10 mil. We need a big body to bother opposing big men and crash the boards.

The Los Angeles Clippers plan to match the Golden State Warriors' offer sheet of four years and $40 million for center DeAndre Jordan, a league source said, a move that will practically force starting center Chris Kaman to seek a trade elsewhere, according to a second source.
It's also an extraordinary expenditure by normally tight-fisted owner Donald Sterling for a second-round draft pick.

If the Clippers match, he can still say he'd rather just play for the W's though, right?

If the player's original team exercises its right of first refusal by matching the principal terms of the offer sheet, the player is then under contract to his original team.

Wow. That doesn't really seem fair. But then, hypothetically, the Warriors could counter offer and increase it?

No. I believe that Jordan may only sign an offer sheet one time. Then its in the Clips' hands whether to match or not. If they match then he's a Clipper, if not then he belongs to whatever team signed the submitted offer sheet.

Per Wojnarowski. Why the f*ck didn't we do this Friday like the initial reports suggested?

Well shit, that changes my perspective on things...seems like all we're doing is making the Clips pay a couple more million than they were going to. What the hell is all the noise about?? And now we just amnestied Charlie Bell for nothing?? I don't want some knee jerk reaction reminiscent of the Maggette ordeal, but damn...we need to do something.

Man, I got excited for nothing. When the local news mentioned we're getting a center from down south, I thought they meant Dwight Howard.

Clips are on the verge of trading Kaman, Aminu, Bledsoe, and Minny's pick to NO for Paul. With Kaman gone its highly likely that they will also match DeAndre's offer sheet.

W's completely struck out on Chandler and Jordan; now where do they go? M. Gasol and Nene are restricted and eyeing max or near max deals with the Rockets and Nets respectively. Lesser C options still available are Kwame Brown and Samuel Dalembert and some young guys who could back up Beans would be Alexis Ajinca and Aaron Gray. Only trade option I see is Okafor who is making ~13-14 mil for the next 3 years- not very attractive.

So do we go after one or two marginal upgrades or stick with what we've got and keep the cap room for the trade deadline/free agency? I don't see many trade options for a C opening up and outside of Dwight next year's C crop isn't that great. Kwame is a good post defender and space eater, a poor man's Kendrick Perkins. I wouldn't mind picking him up but it sounds like he wants MLE type money which is a bit too much for my tastes. Wouldn't want to commit to Dalembert for multiple years and he really doesn't give you anything that Beans can't give us. Landry is a good player but he'd cost a fair amount and he'd probably have to back up Lee.

As far as other FA go Afflalo is an RFA so who knows how much we would have to throw at him to pry him from Denver. I'd love to have him but I expect Denver to keep him unless we drastically overpay. And if we drastically overpay then is it still a good move? S&T seems unlikely as they would likely demand Klay and/or try to get us to take Harrington's contract.

I don't see many options left. Is signing Kwame/Sammy D worth losing the cap flexibility or should we just stick with Beans/Udoh/Amundson? Sadly, I don't see any possibility for any quality C's becoming available at the deadline or in FA next year. Seems pointless to tie up cap space in marginal upgrades unless you can get a good deal a la Dorell Wright. I'd probably prefer to be patient and get some cheap, short term FA with upside. Ajinca, Josh Howard, James Jones, Andrei Kirilenko, etc.

God, this is depressing. I don't know why I'm so surprised. It doesn't make sense to me that a bunch of guys on an internet forum seem to have better foresight than the W's front office who gets paid big bucks to do this kind of thing. If the Clips don't match, and we get Jordan, I'll happily apologize. But it just looks like a bunch of noise for absolutely nothing. And after getting my hopes up with Chandler and Jordan, I'm not really ready to entertain the idea of Kwame Brown. Not unless he's super cheap, same with Dalembert. If it's a one year thing, maybe...but they can fuck off if they try to sell us on one of those two being a long term solution at the 5-spot. Ughhh, so frustrating. Save the cap space until we can get someone who actually matters...otherwise, stick with who we have currently.

Forget Jordan. Watch he'll fizzle out. He averaged 7 and 7 last year....that's it. Andris supposedly put on 25 lbs of muscle. He could be worth that $9M actually. He's also supposedly changed his mindset; got a family. Good for him. I don't care if he misses, he's got to be aggressive and throw up that jump hook to make them at least honor him.

I'm going to project that Biedrins will have a better year than Jordan.

Seems like every year we hear "X player gained/lost 15-25 lbs!" and, with the exception of Baron dropping weight prior to his contract year, it never amounts to the player turning anything around. Beans, B. Wright, Randolph, Curry, Dunny come to mind for guys who "gained" 10+ lbs of "muscle" in one summer, allegedly. Baron, Jack, Al Harrington, and this year David Lee for guys who lost weight. I'm not expecting anything of Beans this season though I would welcome it. Just going to wait and see. FWIW Curry and Udoh apparently put on weight too.

How do you define a "better" year philsmith? Is a Beans 10/10/1.5 season better than a DeAndre Jordan 8/8/2 season? Dunno how likely it is Beans gets back to double-double averages but I reckon that Jordan does somewhat better than 8/8/2 of hes the starter. I'm hoping Beans does get "it" back AND puts the added weight to good use. Even so does that make him better than Jordan? Beans is still the better rebounder but I think Jordan is certainly more of a presence as far as altering shots and certainly has the bulk to defend better even if he hasn't learned the nuances of post defense just yet. Both god awful FT shooters and foul machines but Jordan can finish strong under the rim, will Beans get over his fear of being fouled?

I'm interested to see Udoh as well. Just glancing at the numbers from 82games.com, the team was a lot better with Udoh at C than Beans last season. Wonder if he shows any improvement in his offense or rebounding after his first offseason and training camp? Probably would still be coming off the bench but he could get more minutes than Beans overall and close out games.

And yes, I agree with you "i hate the warriors", the whole free agency has been depressing. We just wasted our amnesty on a 4 mil expiring contract. The Paul trade is off for now apparently, and it is Sterling we're dealing with, but it seems like most likely it will have been a really stupid move if the Clips match that contract.
