    Thanks.

Not about to wave the ship goodbye until it actually ties off. And at this point Oden is still in Blazer Port.

Well, false hope is just one of many coping mechanisms. Not the most productive, though.

At this point it's not going to cost the Blazers all that much to see if he can make another comeback. Especially if were not contending any time soon anyway. The cost benefit could easily be worth it.

If he makes a comeback, it's not going to be in Portland. This latest major surgery pretty much guarantees it, because any team will be able to offer Oden the vet minimum to rehab for the entire 2012-13 season, and the better teams won't think twice about using the vet minimum slot on a player that won't play. Portland will be trying to pick up another Kurt Thomas or Juwan Howard, and that player will get PT.

    He's gone, bud.

He lives down the Street from Larry Miller, literally, until he moves out there's still hope. Bud.

    I bet he retires.

I suggest that he and his people are probably more worried about his health and future walking ability at this point than his basketball career.

No shit! Think of the mess we'd have on our hands! Where the hell would we find minutes for Batum?

What nobody's mentioned so far is what the missing of games in FIVE seasons has done for his development. Has he even been able to shoot free throws for the past 2 or 3 years?

Three MF surgeries - has any pro athlete ever came back from anything close to what Greg is going through?

    Well, duh.

Greg and Brandon need to get together for counseling, both career and emotional. Maybe Magic Johnson could give them advice on Fatburger franchising.

Big Z is the closest example I can think of ... but he was never this dinged up. His second and third seasons were severely impacted by injury, but he still managed to play in 5 games one year and 24 the next before his career arc straightened itself out ...

Really though the fact that Oden keeps injuring himself outside of basketball, just trying to rehab is nothing I've ever seen before.

For his sake I hope he hangs it up and doesn't feel obligated to keep battering his body out of some misplaced sense of loyalty to other people.

Yet another example of why the Blazers front office has no credibility when it comes to reporting on injuries... You have to figure, they knew perfectly well it wasn't a routine scope, being on the mystery knee they've told us nothing about all season long.

There have been a couple guys who've had double microfracture, I've never heard of anyone who's had three though! Would be interested to hear of any examples.

Chad B said yesterday that this was the "setback" they mentioned prior to the season, the team and Greg knew this was a strong possibility all along.

Thank you for saying this. The Oden situation is just a sad one, not an evil one. It's heartbreaking, but not premeditated or purposeful. This is a league where players routinely dog it on the court to get traded or get a coach fired. And I'm supposed to be mad at Greg for just having crappy knees? He always tried. Just didn't work out.

So the whole "non-weight bearing ligament" story was horseshit? Interesting.
