I thought that was only when that player signs with another team. Then the difference is still on cap.
To sign one last player? We bought out Williams and waived Oden, too... so maybe Patty? Hell, waive Felton and start Patty!
Yep, good riddance to the guy who will go down as the biggest draft bust in the franchise's history, which is saying something. No more seeing him in a suit behind the bench.
I dont' think so. I think today was all about starting over fresh. Very similar to clearing all the Jail Blazer air, this is about clearing out the KP burned cake stench that was lingering in the Rose Garden. Oden is gone. Nate is gone. Roy is gone. We also cleared out Wallace and Camby. Next season we will start fresh.
There was no point in keeping Greg on the roster. He's not going to play until 2013-2014 at the earliest, and his contract expires this summer.
In the new CBA there is, IIRC, a portion that says a waived player's contract can be set out over a length of years to minimize cap hits. It is a certain percentage. Am not 100% sure on the details.
Don't fret, whatever instinct you're having that tells you we're making a mistake is just because you've been conditioned to accept shit as a Blazers fan. Go with the opposite impulse and you'll probably be OK.
Maybe they were forced to cut two pretrade rostered players because the newly acquired players (Camby and G Wall) still have to go through physicals before the trade is final? Then, you have to cut two existing players to make room for both trades and can't cut one of the newly acquired players. Hence they waive Oden and CJ. Can someone confirm that this is what happened?
