rumor is that Eddie's father will be driving him up for the Spring game and in the same car will be Gus Armstead... STOMP
Big verbal today for UO from 4-star Evan Voeller from West Linn. Best OL prospect on the west coast according to a few recruiting services.
A good second commit, that's for sure! ESPN.com has him as a 4 star, ranked 80. http://espn.go.com/college-sports/football/recruiting/player/_/id/112533/evan-voeller ESPN's recruiting isn't the greatest, but it's still interesting to see where they have guys. As a comparison, they had Marshall, Addison, Rodrigues and Stafford at 80's last year (behind only Armstead at 83 on the Ducks) so... this is a big pickup. Ed O.
Tosh is busy at work again it seems! When a player is picking a school based soley on their recruiter rather than their program I'd raise an eyebrow. Case in point Shaq Thompson. You have to wonder what a recruiter is saying to a player to make him follow you to two schools in under 2 months?
Actually, I think it's Peter Sirmon this time. I don't think it's that fishy. Tosh convinced Shaq to go to Cal, and then he convinced him to go to UW. The personal connection almost certainly had value, but UW is a pretty darn good school in a great city that loves the Huskies and is craving a winner. The school is also going to get a new stadium and is on the upswing with a good head coach. UW has a lot going for it. They still will lose repeatedly to the Ducks over the foreseeable future, but they are a good option for PSAs. Ed O.
I would agree but I heard these exact sentiments about Cal last year, new stadium, state of the art facility being built, great school and that was what was supposed to have attracted Shaq, Arik, and McCarthy but oddly that didn't seem to do it in the end. It was Tosh, and once he left so did the above three. If you're a top 50 player out of high school TODAY you're not going to Cal or UW cause neither team will win anything before you're in the NFL. I'll tell ya one thing Shaq Thompson will kick himself for not going to the Ducks or USC when he's in the Chicklets Bowl in December!
its really not all that out of the ordinary. In fact if you look closer into the program we support.. Gary Campbell is kinda "that guy" for many recruits who come through here. He may not play xbox with them (as far as I know) but RB's love the guy. I just saw this tweet from Hopkins today quoting 4* RB from Texas Dontre Wilson who is supposedly choosing between us and Texas soon. There are plenty of other players who go and stay places for a coach. LMJ both stayed at Oregon when he thought of transferring, and came back to Oregon after his Soph year and cites Campbell as one of the biggest reasons why.
Here is the quote. He says he's going to make a decision after track and during Desoto's spring football game on May 25th.
I agree except Oregon is on everyones radar for the last three years across the country.... UW and Cal are Pac-12 household names at best, but even then USC and Oregon are the heavyweights first..... With both Cal and UW the name that keeps jumping out is Tosh.... Tosh isn't going to coach Shaq, Tosh is an average line coach at best for a Cal team we pushed all over the field, so did USC and Stanford.... so let's be honest, Tosh is there to recruit and not much else... That's why he got a 500 grand pay bump to jump ship to the puppies. Campbell actually day in and day out works with LMJ, Mamba, Barner and so forth..... I think there's a big difference there with developing a bond with players.
oh I'm not questioning the thought that Tosh is more of a recruiter than anything. But he does a hell of a job doing that. but re: the Oregon are heavyweights comment. They werent heavyweights when LMJ signed to come aboard, and they werent heavyweights when he decided to stay the first time. Some coaches/people can mean that much to someone's decision where to play college ball. Just my two cents.
further indications of how much things have changed, rivals 188th best overall prospect Oklahoma DB Stanvon Taylor relayed he recently requested his HS coach get in touch with Oregon's staff and let them know he's very interested and would like them to call him STOMP
Hopkins making some predictions on who the three most likely prospects to commit to Oregon on signing day will be. 1. Dontre Wilson 2. Eddie Vanderdoes 3. Scott Pagano He says he's fairly confident that we land those guys. I also think that if Eddie comes, Hutchings will be ours as well.
