From Ralph at reaglm. Thread is here: http://forums.realgm.com/boards/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=1195386 Says a lot! 1. Bulls trying to S&T Korver to Atlanta for Hinrich. That is why he has not been signed yet. We have until Sunday. That way it will still leave us the MMLE 2. Said management knew all a long we would be over the cap, just dont want to go crazy. 3. Tolliver was in Chicago last night. Bulls talking 2 yr 3-4 mill. 4. Said his sources think its 75% certain that Flynn will make the team. 5. Korver is being shopped elsewhere for the TPE. 6. Bulls talking to hawks about Morrow. Korver for Morrow. Would save us 2 mill. 7. Said management has contacted the agent for Kenyon Martin. 8. Said CJ Milles will visit us tomorrow.
Martin is one of those aged vets I mentioned before. He could be a nice defensive spark off the bench for us if we don't match Asik. I would have signed Morrow over Korver two years ago. The guy can really shoot the three and gives us a tall SG to go with Rose. He's not as likely to miss games as Rip.
Yea but the nets offered Morrow the contract before we did. And if we're possibly working a S&T for hinrich wit korver, does the morrow stuff mean we're trying to get him added to it? CJ miles could be good, and if Flynn comes here, he'll be cheaper than wat most thought he'd go for.
From what i can tell, there are only two ways to interpret what the Bulls were doing with Korver: - They're trying to avoid Korver's $500,000 guarantee cost - They're trying to give themselves options beyond the vet minimum to add talent to the roster. Unfortunately, we'll have to wait for this to play out in order to know.
I think the latter. The Bulls may be figuring they may suck enough by trade deadline that they can move a big contract (Jo, Lu, Booz) to a contender. Any flexibility they can create is actually good, considering they'd otherwise simply not extend Korver to avoid the $500K.
I'd be extremely surprised if the Bulls FO is spending a lot of their time this summer thinking about how much they might suck at the trade deadline. I agree that it's the latter. I think they'll look to add the talent this summer though.
