Yeah, I'd do it. It beats watching him walk when his contract is up (Deng).

I thought that deal was in play right before the draft.

    I would have also ...

    1. Retained Omer
    2. Dealt Gibson for Gordon Hayward
    3. Dealt Rip for Reddick
    4. Signed Belinelli and leyt Korver go
    5. Not signed Radmanovic or Mohammed
    6. Not signed Kurt and brought in Pat Beverley instead
    7. Amnestied Boozer next year or in 2014 depending on opportunities available
    8. Bought Sacramento's 2nd round pick for $600K to bring in Doron Lamb
    9. Sign Malcolm Thomas

    Here's our squad - fully healthy :

    Noah
    Boozer
    Hayward
    Evans
    Rose

    bench

    Asik
    M.Thomas
    Butler/Salmons
    Reddick/Belinelli
    Beverley/Teague

    That's about a $72M team

You add MLE exceptions , cop it sweet for Asik in Year 3 of his contract , and run a 3 prong guard penetration attack with Rose , Evans and Teague with wing shooters..outside/in guys like Hayward and Chandler Parsons ....add Mirotic in the same way at the 4 and have rim protectors at the 5 in Asik and Noah who would play some 4

To this you wait for the Charlotte pick to mature and whatever roleplaying draft picks we get in the next couple of years and maybe 1 decent MLE pick up in the next year or two

Fuck 2014 and being all dressed up with no one to blow

What we got in the above is young and funky and a contender with enough talent to trade like for like later if we need to address better fits

Was Hayward for Gibson on the table, or is that something you're just throwing out there? That doesn't really make much sense for the Jazz. I thought they were pretty high on Hayward, and they're already trying to shed players in the frontcourt at the moment, so why would Gibson even make sense for them? I mean, does Gibson make sense for a team that has Millsap, Kanter, Favors, and Jefferson?

"Let's trade away one of our most promising, fan favorite wing prospects for a logjam 3rd option at power forward!"

Also, was a Rip for Redick trade ever on the table? Redick's really a better asset at this point in his career, and they have the same length contracts (I doubt someone will pick up Hamilton's $5 mill qualifying offer a year from now), so it's not even like the Magic get a significant cap benefit.

I think you need to step away from NBA 2k and get real about the value of your team's players.

(Also, you should thank the Rockets for taking Asik off your hands at that price.)

Jefferson and Millsap are expiring and Kanter didn't play a lick last year

They have Marvin Williams at their 3 spot and could likely bring back CJ Miles , or , bring in someone like a Delfino to bolster.

The luxury of having decent expiring bigs and also promising young bigs that have still done jack is that it's easier to trade big for small

Gibson and Asik maybe amongst the top half a dozen pick big man pick and roll defenders in the league.

This is not fandom - this is fact.

Also anyone expiring in Orlando won't be back . The Magic will be in go cheap and rebuild through the draft mode. They do this Redick / Hamilton swap it basically saves them $1m when you net out salary diff, lux tax penalties and buyout clause of Rip's last year ( embedded at $1m ) ...for arguably a better player right now in Rip ( assuming he stays injury free )

Hayward and Redick are lesser players than Gibson and Hamlton currently but are better long term fits around the composition of our team that should be built on

    1. Twin or Tri guard dribble drive attack
    2. Wing Shooters who can also pass and make the right basketball play
    3. A stretch 4 ...outside / in type player
    4. Athletic , sized Big man help/shot blocking Centers that are elite pick and roll defenders

That's our checklist , any team's checklist for championship contention IMO

In my theory I am banking that Rose is elite , Evans is 2nd tier quality, Mirotic and Hayward fit the forward line prototype that won't clog the paint/lanes for Rose, Evans and Teague.

Noah and Asik fit as garbage men that take care of the glass and provide elite pick and roll defense

The 2nd and if we're lucky 3rd star ( in deference to Rose ) would come from Mirotic and the eventual Charlotte high level lottery pick and if we're real lucky maybe one of Evans or Hayward

Millsap will almost certainly be offered a huge salary by the Jazz after this year, and you don't think that the Jazz are planning on giving significant playing time to Kanter, who was their #3 pick last year, as well as Derrick Favors, who they traded Deron Williams for? The main reason for Kanter and Favors not playing that much was the logjam in the frontcourt. Why would they want to add to that?

Jefferson is likely on the outs, but that's mostly for reasons of the value of his contract (great cap space incentive for potential luxury tax violating teams), as well as the fact that they're already jammed upfront.

And let's not even get into the value of Gordon Hayward... his trade value is a little higher than a grit-n-grind role player like Taj Gibson... to say the least.

So how does Orlando benefit in the current season by trading JJ for Hamilton? They downgrade on talent, and even though they save a mill, both contracts expire at the same time. If both contracts expire on the same time, the impeding luxury tax increases are not an issue. If anything, Redick is a player Orlando wants to keep around, and if they were to trade him, they could get a lot more in return for him than a declining veteran with a similar contract.

Huh? No... no, not at all.

I think Gibson and Hayward are a wash and I'd rather have Reddick than Rip at this point in their careers. That's in basketball terms. In business terms, Hayward and Rip have owner-friendly contracts in comparison.

To me, the idea of trading Deng for Evans was that Sacto could have absorbed the salary difference and saved us a sizable chunk of cap space. Enough to bring back CJ and maybe Korver. We'd be losing our all-star, but that tag is meaningless when it comes to what's good for the owner's wallet. We'd be gaining a guy we could ride as #1 option while Rose recovers, and what Evans lacks in defense (compared to Deng) he certainly makes up for at the other end (and then some). And when Rose does come back, our back court would be set for years if Evans can be re-signed.

I'm going to say something that should be a consideration when talking about Amnesty. This is from the business side of things - realize I love the guy as a Bulls player. Derrick Rose. He signed the biggest contract possible, missed a huge chunk of the first season, he's going to miss all or most of his second (of the contract), and it may take him all of the third to learn to trust his knee in game and contact situations. If the guy comes back a gimp, they might want the ability to use the amnesty on him. Inconceivable in a world where basketball matters. Conceivable in a world where the opportunity cost for the same salary would mean one or two extremely good players.

I would FJ, in fact if we cant move Hamilton by deadline, I look for the Bulls to move Deng and bring back lesser salary at deadline.
