Killeen Assigned to Solar Bears

    The Orlando Solar Bears announced today that G Patrick Killeen has been assigned from the Wheeling Nailers to the Solar Bears by the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the AHL (American Hockey League). He is expected to join the team in Gwinnett, where the team will begin a three-game road trip on Friday night.

    Killeen (6'4", 215 lbs.) has played in 13 games for the Nailers this season, registering a 3-5-2-2 record, 3.25 GAA, and .880 save percentage. He split the Patrick Killeen 2011-12 season with Wheeling and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, playing in five games for the Penguins with a 2.93 GAA and .871 save percentage to go along with a 2-2-0 record. With the Nailers that season, Killeen played 36 games with a 19-12-2-2 record, 2.69 GAA, and .893 save percentage. Since turning pro in 2010-11, Killeen has played 89 games in the ECHL with a 41-33-2-6 record, 2.85 GAA, and .895 save percentage. Killeen's AHL stats include seven games played with a 2-2-0 record, 3.16 GAA, and .862 save percentage. During his rookie season, Killeen was selected to the ECHL All-Star Team.

    The Carp, Ontario, native played four seasons in the OHL (Ontario Hockey League), all for the Brampton Battalion, from 2006-2010. In his final season with Brampton in 2009-10, Killeen finished with a 2.42 GAA, .913 save percentage, and 23-25-13 record. That season, he was selected a Third Team OHL All-Star. In four years in the OHL, he compiled a 63-48-17 record with a 2.74 GAA and .902 save percentage.

    Killeen was drafted in the sixth round, 180 overall, but the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.

    The Solar Bears play their next three games on the road, but return home on Wednesday, January 30, for a 7:00 p.m. matchup against the Greenville Road Warriors. Orlando will face Greenville again during a 7:00 p.m. contest on Friday, February 1, and then will raise the 2001 Turner Cup Championship Banner on Saturday, February 2, at 7:00 p.m. against the Trenton Titans.
