The "America 12 Conference" is the favorite to become the new name of the current Big East Conference's football schools, league sources told ESPN.

The name has not officially been approved by the league's presidents. The conference also is considering several other names, sources said.

However, Covington & Burling, the conference's law firm, purchased and registered the domain name America12.org on Tuesday, according to WhoIs domain-registration data.

Trickett, who has two seasons of eligibility remaining, will start classes May 20 and can compete for the starting position immediately because of his status as a graduate student.

    NCAA rejects Bryan Burnham appeal

The NCAA has denied Tulsa's appeal seeking a sixth year of eligibility for Bryan Burnham, the team's leading receiver two seasons ago.

Burnham was seeking a waiver to play next season for the Golden Hurricane after sustaining a season-ending knee injury in last year's opener against Iowa State. He also missed the 2008 season due to an illness.

The reason for his departure is unknown.

Texas bans two WRs for first game

Texas wide receivers Cayleb Jones and Kendall Sanders have been suspended for the first game of the season against New Mexico State following separate run-ins with the police, Longhorns coach Mack Brown announced Monday afternoon.

Jones, a sophomore, was arrested and initially charged with aggravated assault for hitting Texas tennis player Joey Swaysland in March. Jones' charges were reduced to a misdemeanor. He was suspended from the team at the time of the initial charges. He has since been reinstated to the team but will miss the New Mexico State game.

    Dewayne Peace ineligible

Houston leading receiver Dewayne Peace is academically ineligible and no longer with the program, a source with knowledge of the situation told ESPN.com Monday night.

Peace had 54 receptions for 603 yards last season, but he also missed three games while serving a suspension for a team rules violation. Despite his stats from a year ago, Peace was not a first-team receiver this spring. Deontay Greenberry, Larry McDuffey, Xavier Maxwell and Daniel Spencer were all ahead of Peace on the depth chart, a testament to the talent and depth the Cougars have at this position.

ESPN and The American Athletic Conference
    Agree to Multiyear Rights Agreement

ESPN and the American Athletic Conference/BEC will continue their relationship of more than three decades with a multiyear, multimedia rights agreement. The agreement grants ESPN exclusive worldwide distribution rights across all media and will continue ESPN’s coverage of the conference’s football, basketball and more through 2019-20. In addition, video subscribers of ESPN will have access to the games via digital and mobile devices.

ESPN’s existing football agreement with the conference runs through 2013 while the 2013-14 season will act as a bridge year for the conference’s basketball rights. Commencing in 2014-15, football, basketball and other sports will be under one agreement through 2019-20 granting ESPN rights to all conference contests (not included in CBS’s basketball rights package) including at least 66 football games and 170 men’s basketball games which will be made available annually across ESPN, ESPN2, ABC, ESPNU, ESPNEWS and ESPN3, and via limited regional and national sublicense. In addition, select women’s basketball regular-season and postseason contests as well as other conference-sponsored sports will be presented throughout the year.

Re: Big East eyes new league name/AAC

The NCAA Division One Board noted that the current Big East Conference would become the American Athletic Conference ("The American") on July 1, 2013, clearing the way for the new conference to adopt the Big East name. The American will retain the Big East's permanent seat on the Division I Board of Directors and their three votes.

    http://www.vuhoops.com/big-east/201...board-recognizes-new-big-east-as-a-conference

The only conferences with permanent seats and 3 votes on the NCAA D1 Board are the 11 FBS conferences. The other 7 seats rotate.

In any given year, 4 will go to FCS conferences, and the other 3 to D1 leagues that do not sponsor football. Those 7 leagues have 1.14 votes each.

    Ranking the American AC's
    2013 Football Uniforms

    1. UConn Huskies

Well done, UConn. You may not like the weird new front-facing helmet logo but no one can argue that the Huskies' new duds aren't a major improvement on their boring, plain and ancient looking uniforms. The added red trim have given this uniform an updated look and feel. And frankly, seeing something blue and white instead of red (and black) like every other team in this league gives UConn an edge. This is one of the better uniform remakes of recent memory and it makes the Huskies the best dressed team in the AAC.
