I just did a quick search and there are dozens of companies that are named Moda. Everything from photographers to bike shops, museums, bakeries, etc. Moda Center seems kind of nebulous. Maybe they've got some great marketing ideas, but so far I doubt many fans in Portland, let alone outside of Oregon, would have a clue as to what company is being referred to in the name.

    In portuguese, Moda = Fashion.

Don't get me wrong - I hate the fact that we sold the naming rights. It'll always be THE ROSE GARDEN. But it could be SO MUCH worse. Moda? Sounds like it could be a museum.

Here I thought it sounded uncivilized. It sounds like the Motor Center.

No, in theory the arena name could change next season, just like the Power Balance Pavilion. But I doubt there is any way MODA can go bankrupt. They would get a bail out.

Say all those arenas out loud, then say "Moda Center" out loud. The word Moda is an assault on my ears. Doesn't really roll off the tongue. More like a verbal bowel movement.

Depends on how you say it. "The MODA " will sound fine in time.

We all tend to shorten things.

    Meet you at the Pepsi
    Meet you at the Toyota
Meet you at the Time Warner Cable

    Those all suck!

"Meet you at the MODA" will roll off your tongue in 1 year.

Nothing was worse than the "Staples Center" when it first opened. After referring to the "Forum" for years? Think how tough that was. Now it is no issue at all.

How many arenas nationwide use regional corporations as sponsors? Just curious
