There is no justification for your argument a drinking problem MUST have hindered his rehab.

I guess I don't understand the thought behind not waiving him. He would have been an unrestricted free agent at the end of the year.

The Blazers disrespected St. Greggers by waiving him. Should have been Thabeet, since he had healthy knees, I guess.

Equating drinking with not taking rehab seriously is a stretch in my opinion.

I think what left a sour taste in many peoples mouths were his comments about Portland after he left the team. I don't recall them exactly, and don't care enough to search for the article. But he kinda dumped on Portland in the press (even though what he said was true, he could have been far more tactful). I still wouldn't boo him, but it changed my opinion of him from positive to neutral-leaning-to-negative.

"There's not a lot for a young, rich, black guy with a broken knee cap to do in Portland in between knee surgeries."

    Or something like that.

Yeah his comments did annoy me. Not that he was wrong but after years of him having no comment on everything he could've been classier.

Portland is the most white major city in the US though.

Right. We could've waived Thabeet. Could've waived Flynn. We did not NEED to waive ODEN to get Lillard.

Yeah, but, it's better for Greg and the franchise to have waived him. It just wasn't gonna work with him in Portland, and we no longer needed the weight of Oden around our necks. What happened, happened. No need to extend the pain. He'll never be the player he was supposed to be anyways, so no great loss.

I'm glad we waived Oden. But I was refuting the statement that we had to waive Oden to get Lillard. Not true.

We should have kept him till he's 35. Isn't that what we're doing with Leonard? Would Oden be any worse, taking up that roster spot?

Which you're 100% correct about, and whoever says otherwise was wrong.

    Learn to read, then post.

I never said we HAD to waive Oden to get Lillard, I said we DID waive him to clear a roster spot to complete the trade that got us the pick we used on Lillard.

No I didn't. I said we waived him to clear a roster spot to complete the New Jersey trade. That's a fact, not an opinion. I never said we HAD to waive him. It was a choice. We could have waived someone else, but given the fact that Greg was not going to play that season, would have been a UFA who would not have resigned with us and didn't play the following season, it was a logical choice at the time.

You said we waived Oden "so we could" do that trade. That implies that if we hadn't released him, we couldn't have done the trade.

Otherwise, your post and its subsequent brothers are pointless.

It doesn't imply anything. I was simply stating a fact. I never claimed it was the only option. The team HAD to waive someone to clear a roster spot. The team CHOSE to waive Oden. Those are facts, not opinions. Nothing implied.

GO had told us when he became a UFA he wasn't going to re-sign with us. He wanted a fresh start. That's why we cut him.

Yeah this is a case of the boxscore acting weird. He got the closest thing to two blocks.

Shot altering is what matters on D. ;]

Shame on you guys for rooting against him, the guy is a ROLE player now he's not going to carry any of you to a title so it doesn't matter. He barely plays as it is, I wonder if he'll hold up even now, playing 4 minutes every two weeks. It is a victory for him to do anything. And I saw the injury issues coming, I wouldn't have taken him #1 with his previous issues at Ohio State.
