Shannon Scott, LaQuinton Ross key in Ohio State's rout

If the rest of the starts by Shannon Scott and LaQuinton Ross go like the first one, No. 11 Ohio State won't have any problem having a superlative season.

Scott scored a career-high 16 points and Ross, also starting for the first time as a junior, had 14 points and a personal-best 11 rebounds to lead the Buckeyes past Morgan State 89-50 on Saturday.

Caris LeVert drains six 3's as No. 7 Michigan breezes

Caris LeVert never scored more than nine points in a game as a freshman.

The Michigan guard surpassed that in under 9 minutes against South Carolina State on Tuesday night.

LeVert made his first five 3-point attempts, and the seventh-ranked Wolverines had a terrific night from beyond the arc, breezing to a 93-59 victory. LeVert finished with a career-high 24 points and said he couldn't recall the last time he had a stretch of shooting like this.

No. 20 Wisconsin holds off No. 11 Florida 59-53

The stands were throbbing red, filled with anxious Wisconsin fans standing shoulder-to-shoulder pleading for a clutch shot against the toughest opponent to visit the Kohl Center for an opener in decades.

Sam Dekker and Traevon Jackson sent the vocal backers of the 20th-ranked Badgers home with smiles.

Dekker scored 16 points, and Jackson added 13 -- including a floater at the foul line with 8 seconds left -- to withstand late pressure from No. 11 Florida in a 59-53 victory Tuesday night.

Re: No. 20 Wisconsin holds off No. 11 Florida 59-53

Tom Izzo is openly lobbying for someone else to move to No. 1 in next week's rankings.

"We've just got to hope now that Kansas blows somebody out so they move them ahead of us," the Michigan State coach said. "We proved tonight we're not ready to handle any kind of success, and that disappoints me."

The angst was back in Izzo's voice Friday night, even though No. 2 Michigan State did pull away from upset-minded Columbia in the final two minutes for a 62-53 victory. The Spartans trailed for a majority of the second half, but Adreian Payne was too much for the Lions inside, finishing with 26 points.

No. 20 Wisconsin rallies to edge Green Bay

The Wisconsin Badgers have never missed advancing to the NCAA tournament with Bo Ryan as their coach.

Still, Ryan had some reservations about what his 13th season at the Wisconsin helm would hold when the Badgers started playing games earlier this month.

"I didn't know that much about our team when we got against the St. John's, the Green Bay's, the Florida's," said Ryan, rattling off the Badgers' first three opponents.

He might be able to rest a little easier after the Badgers navigated that stretch unscathed.

Frank Kaminsky scored 16 points and Sam Dekker added 13 to help No. 20 Wisconsin rally for a 69-66 win over Wisconsin-Green Bay on Saturday night.

No. 1 Michigan State fights off pesky Portland

Michigan State earned a spot atop The Associated Press poll by beating then-top-ranked Kentucky last week.

The Spartans will have to play much better to stay No. 1 in college basketball.

Keith Appling matched a career high with 25 points to help Michigan State pull away to beat Portland 82-67 on Monday night in its first game as a top-ranked team in 13 seasons.

Frank Kaminsky scores school-record 43 in Wisconsin win

Frank Kaminsky was open, and the big man was going to take the shot. There was nothing teammate Traevon Jackson could say to change his mind.

Kaminsky hit that first-half bucket en route to a school-record 43 points, powering No. 12 Wisconsin to a 103-85 win Tuesday night over pesky North Dakota.

Amir Williams, Shannon Scott step up to lead Ohio State over American

Amir Williams and Shannon Scott were McDonald's All-Americans in high school.

For most of their Ohio State careers, however, they have been merely side orders.

Just in time, they're stepping into the spotlight for the eighth-ranked Buckeyes.

Williams scored a career-high 16 points, and Scott added 13 and matched a personal best with nine rebounds to lead Ohio State to a 63-52 victory over American University on Wednesday night.

Re: N No. 14 Michigan rolls past Long Beach State with record 14 3s

Michigan coach John Beilein predicted prior to arriving at the Puerto Rico Tip-Off that the four-day tournament would reveal a lot about his team's talent level.

Through one game, for the most part he likes what he sees.

The 14th-ranked Wolverines knocked down a tournament-record 14 3-pointers and held off a late rally Thursday in an 85-61 victory over Long Beach State.

    Indiana dominates Washington, 102-84

Indiana's young team has already figured one thing out: Go get those rebounds.

Adreian Payne scores career high to lead Michigan St. vs. Virginia Tech

With about five minutes left in the game, Adreian Payne hung on the rim a little longer than usual, savoring a dunk that came after taking a nifty pass from Denzel Valentine.

A little while later, coach Tom Izzo looked at a scoresheet and marveled at how many of Michigan State's baskets come from assists.

"It's sick, it's a good sick," Izzo said. "That shows you how unselfish and the kind of guys I got."

With an all-around performance Friday night, the top-ranked Spartans routed Virginia Tech 96-77 in the semifinals of the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic.

No. 1 Michigan State tops Oklahoma, wins Coaches vs. Cancer Classic

Keith Appling spent some time on the bench in foul trouble. Fellow guard Gary Harris was forced to sit for a while because of leg cramps. Center Adreian Payne was having an off night.

Somebody had to step up for No. 1 Michigan State as it couldn't shake Oklahoma.

    It was Appling.

He scored a career-high 27 points, including eight in the final 3:04 after the Sooners got within four points, and the Spartans pulled away in the final minutes for an 87-76 victory Saturday night in the championship game of the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic.

Kaminsky helps Wisconsin beat Oral Roberts 76-67

Wisconsin coach Bo Ryan knows his team isn't going to be hot from outside every game.

The Badgers showed off their versatility Saturday night when they found a way to get another victory without their usual outside production.

Frank Kaminsky scored 21 points to lead five Wisconsin players in double figures, helping the 12th-ranked Badgers hold on for a 76-67 win against Oral Roberts.
