    Louisville hosts first scrimmage

Louisville doesn't buy into midnight madness.

Confusion created by its defense is another matter, and Saturday's first Red-White scrimmage featured flashes of the trademark pressure that helped win last season's NCAA championship.

However, that aspect took a back seat to impressive offense before 8,280 at the KFC Yum! Center as both squads shot at least 46 percent.

Shabazz Napier has two of them.

The senior guard put up 14 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists Monday to lead No. 19 UConn (2-0) to an 80-62 win over in-state rival Yale.

    Luke Hancock expected to return

Louisville is expected to get Luke Hancock back on Tuesday night against Hofstra, and Chane Behanan also could make his season debut.

Cardinals coach Rick Pitino told ESPN.com that Hancock, who missed the entire preseason and the season opener against Charleston with an Achilles injury, will play against Hofstr

Pitino: Ware likely 2 weeks away

Louisville's Kevin Ware, just days after returning to the court in an exhibition game, did not play in the season opener on Saturday and may have to wait another two weeks before making his regular-season debut.

"He's still limping a little bit," Cardinals coach Rick Pitino said following the team's 70-48 win against College of Charleston. "It's noticeable. When he gets over that, he's going to play. He's probably two weeks away from playing."

Russ Smith leads way as Louisville runs over Hofstra

When Russ Smith starts off in that offensive zone early, chances are it's going to be a good night for him and Louisville.

It got even better when his Cardinal teammates joined the fun later on.

Smith scored 21 of his game-high 30 points in the first half and No. 3 Louisville made 12 3-pointers to set the tone for a 97-69 rout of Hofstra on Tuesday night.

No. 19 UConn routs Detroit behind Omar Calhoun's 17 points

Connecticut coach Kevin Ollie tells his team that if a player can count three beats in his head while holding the ball, then he's holding it too long.

The Huskies had a nice rhythm going Thursday night.

Omar Calhoun led six players in double figures with 17 points and No. 19 UConn routed Detroit 101-55 on Thursday night in the opening round of the 2K Sports Classic.

Kevin Ware makes season debut as Louisville wins

Kevin Ware needed just 17 seconds to show Louisville fans he can still play.

Ware, the sentimental figure during the Cardinals' title run last season, scored Friday night on the first touch of his official return since shattering his leg during last season's NCAA tournament.

The third-ranked Cardinals posted a school-record 19th straight win while welcoming back Ware in a 99-54 victory over Cornell.

Montrezl Harrell, No. 3 Louisville glide to win over Hartford

Chris Jones and Louisville have done a tremendous job protecting the basketball this season, and that's led to easy victories.

But the junior committed his second turnover of the season early in the second half of the Cardinals' 87-48 win over Hartford in the Hall of Fame Tipoff on Tuesday night.

habazz Napier helps UConn hold off Indiana for 2K title

When a Connecticut guard has a game in Madison Square Garden like Shabazz Napier did Friday night, there is only one name he can be compared to: Kemba Walker.

Napier, who scored 27 points and dominated the 18th-ranked Huskies' 59-58 victory over Indiana in the championship game of the 2K Sports Classic Benefiting Wounded Warrior Project, was more than happy to hear Walker's name come up.

No. 3 Louisville beats Fairfield, picks up 21st straight win

Louisville's 21st straight win wasn't what Rick Pitino would have liked it to be.

Chris Jones scored 15 points and Montrezl Harrell added 14 points and 12 rebounds to lead the No. 3 Cardinals to a 71-57 victory over Fairfield on Saturday in the Hall of Fame Tipoff Tournament.

No. 11 Memphis defeats Nicholls State 98-59

The Memphis Tigers made sure none of the negatives from an embarrassing loss spilled over into their game with Nicholls State.

The No. 11 Tigers used a pressure defense and concentrated on feeding the ball inside on Saturday as they easily defeated the Colonels 98-59.

No. 13 UConn beats Loyola (Md) 76-66

UConn's DeAndre Daniels went into halftime against Loyola, Md., with just three points and no rebounds, and got an earful from coach Kevin Ollie.

The 6-foot-9 junior responded by scoring 18 second-half points and pulling down eight rebounds to help No. 13 Connecticut (7-0) remain undefeated with a 76-66 win over the Greyhounds (4-1) Tuesday night.

Chris Jones, No. 9 Louisville beat Southern Miss

Any jitters Terry Rozier had in his first career start weren't apparent as he quickly made two 3-pointers that helped set an offensive tone for Louisville.

Chris Jones followed Rozier's lead by sinking a few more from long range while contributing to the kind of defensive performance coach Rick Pitino wanted.

Nothing like a shakeup to make things happen.

Jones came off the bench to score 18 points, including four 3-pointers, and the No. 9 Cardinals bounced back from their first loss to roll past Southern Mississippi 69-38 Friday night.

Memphis limits Marcus Smart, beats No. 5 Oklahoma State in rematch

Shaq Goodwin helped make sure the outcome for Memphis and Tigers coach Josh Pastner was different than the first matchup this season against Oklahoma State.

Goodwin had 17 points, Joe Jackson hit four key free throws late and No. 21 Memphis beat No. 5 Oklahoma State 73-68 Sunday night in the championship game of the Old Spice Classic.

Napier beats buzzer as No. 12 UConn edges No. 15 Florida

Shabazz Napier is the top player on No. 12 Connecticut and is one of the most clutch players in the nation. The point guard, who led the undefeated Huskies to another win Monday night with a buzzer-beating jumper, has higher comparisons in mind.

"Growing up I wanted to be Superman. Everyone wants to be a hero," he said, surrounded by media after a lovefest with the UConn fans in Gampel Pavilion. "I just felt I was fortunate enough to be in the right spot at the right time."

That would have been the free throw line, where he gathered a loose ball after teammate DeAndre Daniels tipped back Napier's miss of an off balance shot and buried a jumper at the buzzer to give the Huskies a 65-64 victory over No. 15 Florida.

    No. 7 Louisville routs Missouri-Kansas City, 90-62

As Louisville strives to reach the high level of performance and consistency achieved by last year's championship squad, the Cardinals also know that getting there will take time with a bunch of new faces.

Wednesday night's game against Missouri-Kansas City could be considered a small step in that process.

The No. 7 Cardinals used contributions from veterans and newcomers to get the job done in a 90-62 win over Missouri-Kansas City. Montrezl Harrell scored 14 points to lead five Louisville players in double figures.
