I have no issue with A&E "firing" him. It's how their audience reacts to the firing that impacts how they run their business.

    You have to accept it.

I don't believe companies should suspend people for being Christian or athiest

Which brings me back to my earlier point, its a stunt. They know their target audience, now they will dress up in the American flag and claim religious persecution. Next weeks ratings double.

I'm with Gorilla. It's fucking retarded to defend obviously bigoted statements on the basis of tolerating religious belief.

In other words IF you believed in god and you thought he commanded you to murder someone you wouldn't think that action was immoral. I feel sorry for you.

Absolutely fucking hateful. He's like any other Christian who picks and chooses what to follow in the OT based on their own personal prejudices.

I have no idea what you're trying to communicate to me. Explain it again, please. If God commanded me to murder someone ... huh? I don't believe in the Bible, but the last I checked, murder is a sin in it, too. If Phil Robertson also said that murder was a sin, would you be outraged? :dunno:

you said the only reason you disagree with his views is because you aren't a Christian. You're (perhaps unintentionally) validating the idea that it's ok for morality to be religious-based regardless of harmful prejudices involved.

I'm validating the idea that the Bible calls both murder and homosexuality a sin, literally. I made no other comment on morality and religion, only that in Phil Robertson's religion, murder and homosexuality are both considered sinful acts against God's will. This is a fact, at least in terms of his belief system.

You're not making any sense to me, at least in terms of what I wrote on the board. Seems like you're just trying to put words into my mouth and construct an argument from a false premise.

the OT calls many minutia sinful - things that Christians accept today using various justifications simply because those things so obviously aren't a big deal. Nobody is following the letter of the law. ALL Christians pick and choose parsing the bible based on their own personally derived concepts of morality (and in some cases their own common sense). Murder is universally considered a sin because it's obviously empirically harmful, not because god commanded us not to do it.

or you said something you didn't mean. is the fact that you aren't a Christian really the ONLY reason you don't think homosexuality is immoral? there are absolutely no other factors that affect your view on the matter?

I said the reason I disagree with Robertson is based on his religious beliefs. I don't think homosexuality is immoral because I don't thinks its immoral. I do think murder is immoral.

That Phil Robertson is setting the tone for discussion in America is a lot scarier than anything he's saying.

Defending him for speaking his mind in a non hateful way. Yes, I would defend anyone's right to do that. Hell, I'd defend anyone's right to speak hatefully if they chose to. I may not agree with it, but I would defend it

Way to defend VG for speaking his mind

there's a difference between defending his right to say what he wants and defending the content of what he says because it's specifically a religious opinion.
