Luke Hancock clutch as No. 12 Louisville holds off SMU

Though Louisville's roster differs from the one that won the national championship in April, coach Rick Pitino has stressed that veterans such as Luke Hancock and Russ Smith must take charge if the Cardinals hope to make another title run.

Sunday offered a hint of how good things could be when the seniors' games are clicking.

Hancock scored 19 of his career-high 23 points in the second half, including two free throws with 46 seconds remaining, to help No. 12 Louisville hold off SMU for a 71-63 victory in a meeting of Hall of Fame coaches.

No. 19 Cincinnati rallies to 69-58 win over Temple

Sean Kilpatrick shot a 3-pointer during Cincinnati's afternoon workout and watched it go in. He shot another and then another. Perfect again.

At long last, the Bearcats' senior guard had his shooting touch back.

Kilpatrick emerged from his 3-point shooting slump Tuesday night, and Justin Jackson had a double-double, rallying No. 19 Cincinnati from a late deficit to a 69-58 victory over short-handed Temple.

Chris Jones to sit vs. Houston

Louisville junior point guard Chris Jones won't play for the No. 18 Cardinals on Thursday night against Houston because of an injured oblique muscle.

Coach Rick Pitino said Wednesday that the 5-foot-10 Jones, the team's No. 3 scorer at 11.3 points per game, "tweaked" the muscle while throwing a long pass to freshman teammate Terry Rozier in the first half of Sunday's victory over SMU. He had two points and three assists in 14 minutes but played just one minute in the second half of the 71-63 victory.

DeAndre Daniels, UConn best No. 17 Memphis in road upset

Connecticut used a late push to end its early road woes in the American Athletic Conference -- and earned a win over a ranked team, too.

DeAndre Daniels had 23 points and a career-high 11 rebounds, Shabazz Napier added 17 points and Connecticut finished strong to beat No. 17 Memphis 83-73 Thursday night.

No. 18 Louisville routs Houston 91-52

Things went so well for Wayne Blackshear that when he went flying out of bounds to bat a loose ball back in without looking, it bounced off a Houston defender's hands and right to a Louisville teammate.

That kind of good fortune had recently eluded Blackshear, who found energy and redemption while coming off the bench.

Blackshear scored a career-high 23 points in his first game this season as a reserve, and No. 18 Louisville used a strong offensive start to blow out Houston 91-52 on Thursday night.

    No. 17 Memphis beats LeMoyne-Owen 101-78

The Memphis Tigers found some benefit from playing Division II LeMoyne-Owen in midseason: a win to end their two-game home skid.

Nick King scored 18 points and No. 17 Memphis defeated the Magicians 101-78 on Saturday, a needed relief for the Tigers (13-4) who had dropped consecutive home games to Cincinnati and Connecticut before the victory.

Russ Smith, Montrezl Harrell lift No. 18 Louisville at UConn

Somebody forgot to tell Montrezl Harrell that Louisville and UConn was supposed to be all about the guards.

The 6-foot-8 forward had 18 points, 13 rebounds and three blocked shots to help the 18th ranked Cardinals to 76-64 win on the road against the Huskies on Saturday night.

No. 12 Louisville routs USF as five Cards score in double figures

Russ Smith got poked in the eye and teammate Montrezl Harrell took a blow to the chin, opening a cut.

That was as tough as it got for No. 12 Louisville in Wednesday night's 86-47 rout of cold-shooting South Florida, the fourth straight win for the defending national champions.

No. 15 Cincinnati beats Central Florida 69-51

Staphon Blair went up for a dunk, ready to slam the ball down with both hands. Justin Jackson wasn't going to let that happen.

"I was like, `Really?" Jackson said. "They're going to do that? I blocked it."

The forward slid in from the side and swatted the ball out of Blair's firm grip. He headed down the court and thrust out his lower lip as the student section started chanting his name.

Cincinnati's shot-blocking, ball-swiping defense had yet another big moment Thursday night.

Jackson matched his career high by blocking seven shots and Sean Kilpatrick scored 19 points with a strong second half that carried No. 15 Cincinnati to its 11th straight win, 69-51 over Central Florida.

Goodwin leads No. 23 Memphis past Houston, 82-59

A lively start for Memphis ensured the Tigers were never in danger of extending that home losing streak in the American Athletic Conference.

Shaq Goodwin had 20 points, Joe Jackson added 18 points and seven assists, and No. 23 Memphis jumped out to an early lead in an 82-59 victory over Houston on Thursday night.

No. 23 Memphis hits season-high 10 3s in rout of South Florida

Memphis dispelled its reputation as a poor 3-point shooting team while coasting to its third straight victory.

Chris Crawford scored 15 points, converting five of Memphis' season-high 10 3-pointers, and the 23rd-ranked Tigers defeated South Florida 80-58 on Sunday.

Cincinnati staves off Temple to stay perfect in AAC

Sean Kilpatrick hadn't scored in over 13 minutes, and No. 15 Cincinnati had just blown every bit of a 19-point second-half lead against Temple.

"I was just trying to get fouled," he said. "The time was running down, they switched the pick and roll and the big man was on me. I just drove at him."

The big man was Anthony Lee, who picked up his fifth foul after catching Kilpatrick on the arm with 7.2 seconds remaining. Kilpatrick went to the line and promptly ended his scoring drought by making the game-winning free throws.

Kilpatrick finished with a season-high 29 points and the Bearcats (19-2, 8-0 AAC) staved off a Temple comeback to remain undefeated in the American Athletic Conference with an 80-76 victory Sunday.

No. 22 Memphis holds off UCF 69-59

Since Memphis' double-digit loss to Connecticut, Tigers coach Josh Pastner has made a point to try to get his team to focus on their effort on the defensive end.

That recent prodding paid off Wednesday night when the Tigers needed it most.

After UCF cut Memphis' lead to just a basket midway through the second half, the 22nd-ranked Tigers held UCF to five points over the final 8:52 on their way to a 69-59 victory.

Sean Kilpatrick, No. 13 Cincinnati rally to tip No. 12 Louisville

Sean Kilpatrick has been Cincinnati's driving force all season, thanks largely to being almost automatic from the foul line.

But even he had to step back and savor a big game keyed by 11-of-11 free throw shooting that helped the No. 13 Bearcats overcome No. 12 Louisville and remain atop the American Athletic Conference.

Kilpatrick scored 28 points, including six free throws down the stretch that rallied Cincinnati for a 69-66 victory over the Cardinals on Thursday night.
