Spartans hold off furious Buckeyes charge in OT win

Michigan State has two wins against top three teams and its hard-driving coach is not in the mood to celebrate the feat.

Keith Appling made a tiebreaking 3-pointer with 29 seconds left in overtime and finished with 20 points, seven assists and six rebounds to help the fifth-ranked Spartans beat No. 3 Ohio State 72-68 on Tuesday night after blowing a 17-point lead in the second half.

No. 4 Wisconsin uses 20-0 run to trounce Illinois

Be careful against No. 4 Wisconsin. A couple of missed shots can quietly snowball into a huge hole for opponents.

No. 23 Illinois is the latest team to get run over by the surprising big red juggernaut. Ben Brust scored 18 points, Sam Dekker added 17 and the Badgers used a 20-0 run in the first half in an easy 95-70 win Wednesday night.

No. 20 Iowa beats Northwestern 93-67

Iowa didn't need coach Fran McCaffery's help to beat Northwestern. The Hawkeyes already had more than enough to blow out the woeful Wildcats.

Aaron White had 18 points and 10 rebounds, Melsahn Basabe added 16 points with 10 boards and No. 20 Iowa routed Northwestern 93-67 Thursday night.

No. 5 Michigan State rallies to beat Minnesota in OT

Michigan State can't count on many of its players to perform consistently well.

Keith Appling has been an exception in Big Ten play.

Appling scored 24 points to help the fifth-ranked Spartans beat Minnesota 87-75 in overtime Saturday after overcoming a double-digit deficit in the second half and blowing a lead late in regulation.

Iowa's late surge gives No. 3 Ohio State its second straight loss

There's an invisible line that a good team must cross to become a national or even conference contender.

Iowa climbed over that mental barrier on Sunday.

Roy Devyn Marble scored 22 points, Aaron White added 19 and the 20th-ranked Hawkeyes ended the game on a 22-9 run to hand No. 3 Ohio State its second loss of the week, 84-74.

Tre Demps, Northwestern upend No. 23 Illinois

Chris Collins didn't expect his team to score only 49 points in his first conference victory. Still, he wasn't complaining.

Tre Demps scored 11 points and made three late 3-pointers to lead Northwestern to a 49-43 upset of in-state rival No. 23 Illinois on Sunday night. Drew Crawford added 14 points and JerShon Cobb had 11 for the Wildcats (8-9, 1-3 Big Ten) in Collins' his first Big Ten win

Hoosiers grow up in 75-72 upset of No. 3 Wisconsin

Tom Crean watched his young Hoosiers grow up Tuesday night.

Stunned fans were overjoyed with the results.

The turnovers and fouls were down. The defense improved and the Hoosiers did more than just play for pride - they protected their home court against a team that hadn't lost all season.

Kevin ''Yogi'' Ferrell scored 25 points, including two free throws with 18.1 seconds left, and freshman Stanford Robinson added a career-best 13 before grabbing the final rebound on a missed 3-pointer to preserve Indiana's 75-72 upset over No. 3 Wisconsin - a win that sent students streaming onto the court.

Gary Harris leads Michigan St. to 9th straight win

Gary Harris sees the wins piling up for No. 4 Michigan State. What he doesn't see is a finished product.

The Spartans hardly looked like one against Northwestern on Wednesday night. They still prevailed 54-40, with Harris scoring 14 points to lead them to their ninth straight victory.

Minnesota sends No. 11 Ohio State to 3rd straight loss

New coach Richard Pitino has brought a fast-paced, perimeter-based style to Minnesota.

The Golden Gophers haven't ignored their inside game, though. Ohio State got quite the glimpse.

Elliott Eliason had 12 points and 13 rebounds to help Minnesota muscle up and beat the 11th-ranked Buckeyes 63-53 Thursday night, a rare third loss in a row for Ohio State.

Michigan hands No. 3 Wisconsin second-straight loss

Step back, dribble between the legs and fire away.

Nik Stauskas played it cool in front of a raucous road crowd late in the second half to hit a clutch shot that helped Michigan hold on for a rare win at Wisconsin.

Stauskas scored 23 points, including his key 3 with less than a minute left, and the Wolverines fended off a late surge for the 77-70 victory Saturday over the third-ranked Badgers.

No. 4 Michigan State cruises on road at Illinois

Coming to Illinois on Saturday, a long list of milestones were on the line for Michigan State.

Best start in team history. A chance for Tom Izzo to move up the ladder of Big Ten coaching wins. And, oh yeah, the top spot in the conference standings to protect.

The Spartans (17-1, 6-0 Big Ten) checked off all those boxes, holding off Illinois in a sometimes frustrating, physical contest, 78-62.

No. 14 Iowa pulls away to pound Minnesota

With Devyn Marble struggling and Aaron White in foul trouble, the once-forgotten Josh Oglesby kept Iowa afloat.

Once Marble and White got it going, the 14th-ranked Hawkeyes overwhelmed Minnesota.

White scored all of his 18 points in the second half and Oglesby came off the bench to add a season-high 17 points as Iowa blew past Minnesota 94-73 on Sunday.

Nebraska hands No. 17 Ohio State its fourth straight loss

After Nebraska's previous home game, Terran Petteway stood in front of his bench, hands over his head with a pained look on his face.

He wore an expression of pure joy Monday night as the buzzer sounded and the student section rushed the court to celebrate the Cornhuskers' 68-62 upset of No. 17 Ohio State. It was the Buckeyes' fourth straight loss after a 15-0 start.

    Spartans' Adreian Payne likely out

No. 3 Michigan State could be without forward Adreian Payne for another two weeks because of a sprained right foot, coach Tom Izzo said Monday.

"There's some of me that doesn't see him playing for two weeks," Izzo said. "If it gets into that next week, I mean, a win against Georgetown is as important as a lot of wins, but it's not as important as a Big Ten win."

Deandre Mathieu, Mo Walker's 18 lifts Minnesota over No. 9 Wisconsin

Things couldn't have started any worse for Minnesota. Andre Hollins hurt his left ankle just 16 seconds into the game and didn't return.

The Golden Gophers have a lot more to offer than just their leading scorer, though, as ninth-ranked Wisconsin was reminded.

DeAndre Mathieu and Mo Walker each scored 18 points, an outside-inside combination that pushed the Gophers to an 81-68 victory Wednesday night over the Badgers, who took their third straight loss.

Michigan tops Iowa, sets up clash of conference unbeatens vs. Spartans

Nik Stauskas started the quick flurry with a 3-pointer from the left corner, and that was followed by another familiar sight -- a driving dunk by Glenn Robinson III.

Then Spike Albrecht stepped in front of an inbounds pass for a steal and a quick basket -- the latest unexpected contribution from the sophomore who has become such a crowd favorite in Ann Arbor.

"I've seen that in film. They get some long outlet passes for some transitions," Albrecht said. "I just kind of sat there and jumped in."

Stauskas scored 26 points, and No. 21 Michigan held off No. 10 Iowa 75-67 on Wednesday night to remain unbeaten in the Big Ten. Robinson added 14 points for the Wolverines, and Albrecht shined in his first career start, finishing with seven points, seven assists, four steals and no turnovers.

Lenzelle Smith's clutch 3 helps Ohio State end 4-game skid

All Lenzelle Smith Jr. wanted was to see his teammates happy for a change.

They hadn't been for the past 19 days.

LaQuinton Ross scored 18 points and Smith had 16 -- and each added critical points down the stretch -- to help No. 17 Ohio State end a four-game skid with a 62-55 win over Illinois on Thursday night.

Michigan holds off short-handed Michigan St. to stay perfect in Big Ten

With some swagger and a sweet stroke, Nik Stauskas lifted Michigan to a rare win at Michigan State.

Stauskas made a tiebreaking 3-pointer with 3:12 left and finished with 19 points to lead the 21st-ranked Wolverines to an 80-75 win over the third-ranked Spartans on Saturday night to remain the only Big Ten team without a conference loss.
